The posting
Second Foundation is an international energy trading and asset management firm headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic, with offices in Switzerland, Germany, Japan and the US. Our team of 500 plus professionals specializes in power trading, transforming complex data into market-leading trading strategies through advanced technology and sophisticated quantitative modelling.
We are looking for new colleagues who have done the work themselves and now want to design how it works rather than only run it. You will own one domain end to end — how it should work, what the system has to do to support it, and whether what gets built is actually right. Over time you will take on a second domain, so this is a role that broadens rather than narrows.
You will be the person who knows the domain, writes down how it works, and is accountable for the design being correct. You are the link between the people who know the business and the people who know the systems. You do not write code, and you do not decide the accounting rule. Your job is to make sure both sides mean the same thing — and to be the one who can tell, at the end, whether they did.
What would you work on?
- Owning one Operations domain end to end. Today that means one of: Record to Report and the period-end close; controlling, allocations and project profitability; consolidation and group reporting; treasury and cash flow. Later waves add tax reporting, contract management, compliance and HR administration.
- Documenting how your domain works today — including the exceptions, and the points where it crosses into other domains.
- Designing how it should work, and writing the business requirements with acceptance criteria before anything gets built.
- Writing test scenarios, running UAT with the people who will use the result, and confirming with the business owner whether it is accepted.
- Training key users, and staying the functional point of contact for your domain once it is live.
- Keeping your part of the Process Guide current, so that how things work is written down rather than carried in someone's head.
- Handing your specification to the Business Analyst and staying available while it becomes a technical design — then checking the result against the criteria you wrote.
What makes you a great candidate?
- 3+ years of hands-on work in one of these domains — accounting, controlling, consolidation, treasury, tax, legal operations, compliance or HR administration — before turning to analysis or great expert in process and data analysis with the passion for finance or operational processes.
- You think in exceptions. Your first question about a new rule is what happens when it does not hold.
- You know what an audit trail needs, and why a statutory deadline is not negotiable.
- You write plainly: a specification someone else can build from, and an email an executive reads only once.
- You are comfortable saying that a request is not ready yet, and asking what makes it necessary.
- You can hold your own in a conversation about a data model or an integration without being technical yourself — enough to be a real counterpart to a Business Analyst, not enough to design it for them. Excel is second nature; Power BI and SQL are a bonus, never a requirement.
- You are curious about domains that are not yours yet. Most of the value in this team comes from the places where two domains meet.
- Experience with an ERP implementation, a consolidation tool, or a data warehouse project is a strong advantage.
- Fluent in English and Czech; other languages are an advantage.
