The posting

Job Title: Training Officer

Department: Construction

Reports To: Senior Training Officer / Junior Training Manager / Managing Director Location: Jinja, Uganda (with travel to multiple districts)

About EarthEnable:

EarthEnable is transforming how people live by making homes healthier for families across rural Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda and helping to reduce the polluting impact of the building industry on the environment. Most Ugandans live in homes with dirt floors that are dusty, unsanitary, and fertile breeding grounds for parasites and germs. While replacing a dirt floor with concrete has significant health benefits (e.g., reducing diarrhea by 50% and parasitic infections by 80%), concrete is unaffordable for many who need it and is a huge contributor to global pollution.

To counter the environmental and affordability issues surrounding concrete, EarthEnable has spent the past 8+ years developing and selling high-quality, earthen floors and plasters that are 80% cheaper than concrete with 90% less embodied energy.

Position Summary

The Training Officer is responsible for building the skills and capacity of EarthEnable’s construction teams, including masons, site foreman, and construction officers. The role involves delivering both theoretical and practical training, introducing new products from Research & Development (R&D), and ensuring that EarthEnable’s quality standards are consistently applied in the field.

This role is field-based, working across districts to support team performance, track training outcomes, and ensure alignment with company objectives, including OKRs and quality benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product-Focused Training

  • Deliver technical training on new plaster and floor products developed by the R&D team. Disseminate accurate construction methods and quality standards for new product rollouts.
  • Update training content based on the latest innovations and product improvements.

2. Mason Capacity Building

  • Conduct refresher and upskilling training for existing masons.
  • Identify skill gaps and provide targeted support to ensure high-quality work. Monitor performance in the field and recommend promotions or additional training as needed.

3. Training Program Management

  • Organize and lead on-site and theoretical training sessions, including:
  1. Internal plastering
  2. External plastering
  3. Flooring systems
  • Ensure all trainees understand and follow EarthEnable’s quality control procedures.

4. Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with QA, Operations, and R&D teams to align training with material standards and logistics.
  • Coordinate training schedules with the construction and sales teams based on demand.
  • Join field visits to observe post-training implementation and identify improvement areas.

5. Reporting and Documentation

  • Keep detailed records of training sessions, attendance, evaluations, and outcomes. Report weekly to the Senior Trainer Officer or Training Manager on progress and challenges.
  • Collect and document field feedback to support continuous improvement in training design.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. At least 2 years of experience in construction training, supervision, or field-based mentoring.
  • Familiarity with earthen construction, including floor and plaster systems. Proven ability to train, coach, and evaluate performance in field teams.

Desired Attributes

  • Strong facilitation and leadership skills.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to solve problems in the field.
  • Fluency in English and at least one local language (spoken in Eastern Uganda).
  • Comfortable using Google Sheets and basic reporting tools.
  • Committed, reliable, and aligned with EarthEnable’s mission and values.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
