Job Summary

We are seeking a competent, patient-focused, and dependable Medical Officer to provide locum medical coverage at a radiology and diagnostic imaging facility in Utako, Abuja, on Saturdays.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing walk-in patients, providing initial medical evaluation, responding promptly to emergencies, and managing initial responses to adverse reactions associated with contrast administration. The role requires sound clinical judgement, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with radiologists, radiographers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

The organisation intends to establish a pool of two regular locum Medical Officers to ensure consistent weekend coverage and reliable scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Assessment and Clinical Care

  • Conduct initial assessments of walk-in patients and obtain relevant medical histories.
  • Evaluate patients' clinical conditions and identify potential risks before diagnostic imaging procedures, where required.
  • Review relevant medical history, allergies, current medications, and other risk factors associated with contrast administration.
  • Determine when further medical evaluation or referral is required.
  • Provide appropriate initial treatment and stabilisation within the scope of practice.

2. Emergency Response and Patient Safety

  • Provide prompt medical assessment and initial management of medical emergencies occurring within the facility.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to adverse reactions to contrast media, including allergic-like reactions and other acute complications.
  • Initiate emergency protocols, stabilisation measures, and escalation procedures when necessary.
  • Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are appropriately checked and ready for use in line with facility procedures.
  • Coordinate emergency referrals and transfers when a patient's condition requires a higher level of care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of emergencies, interventions, and patient outcomes.

3. Clinical Coordination and Support

  • Work closely with radiologists, radiographers, nurses, and other clinical personnel to support safe patient care.
  • Communicate relevant clinical findings and patient safety concerns promptly to the appropriate team members.
  • Support patient preparation and clinical clearance processes for diagnostic imaging where required.
  • Follow established clinical protocols, standard operating procedures, and infection prevention and control measures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable healthcare regulations and professional standards.

4. Documentation and Handover

  • Maintain accurate patient assessment notes, treatment records, and incident reports.
  • Document adverse reactions, emergency interventions, referrals, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Provide appropriate handover of outstanding clinical issues to the designated medical or management team.
  • Report clinical incidents and recommend improvements to patient safety procedures where necessary.

5. Professional Conduct

  • Maintain a professional, compassionate, and patient-centred approach.
  • Adhere to ethical standards, clinical governance requirements, and the facility's policies.
  • Arrive promptly and provide reliable coverage throughout the scheduled shift.
  • Participate in relevant clinical briefings, emergency preparedness activities, and periodic reviews as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or an equivalent recognised medical qualification.
  • Full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and a valid practising licence.
  • Completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of post-NYSC clinical experience.
  • Current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience in emergency response, outpatient care, diagnostic imaging, radiology, or hospital-based clinical practice will be an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of patient assessment, emergency stabilisation, and the initial management of contrast-related adverse reactions.
  • Strong clinical judgement, communication, documentation, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Professional integrity, reliability, and a strong commitment to patient safety.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a clinically competent and responsible Medical Officer who can independently conduct initial patient assessments, recognise clinical deterioration, and respond effectively to emergencies within their scope of practice.

The candidate should be confident in managing urgent situations, familiar with contrast-related risks in diagnostic imaging, and committed to maintaining high standards of patient safety and clinical documentation.

Candidates with experience in radiology centres, diagnostic facilities, emergency departments, or outpatient clinical services are particularly encouraged to apply.

  • Workdays: Saturdays.
  • Working Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing
