SITE RELIABILITY ENGINEERING (SRE) MANAGER

Job Description | AWS & Azure | Banking & Fintech

Location: Bangalore

Experience: Typically 6+ years in infrastructure, cloud engineering, DevOps, or SRE, including 3+ years leading technical teams

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on SRE Manager to lead the reliability, availability, performance, and security of platforms serving major banks and fintech companies.

This role combines technical delivery, people management, and client engagement. You will design and operate production infrastructure across AWS and Microsoft Azure, lead a team of SRE engineers, and work directly with client technology, security, and operations teams. You should be comfortable troubleshooting a production incident, reviewing infrastructure code, developing your team, and explaining technical risks to senior client stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-on technical leadership

Design, build, and operate highly available, scalable, and resilient infrastructure across AWS and Azure.

Lead architecture reviews covering availability, capacity, security, operability, and disaster recovery.

Remain actively involved in infrastructure automation, code reviews, troubleshooting, and complex production issues.

Establish service-level indicators and objectives (SLIs/SLOs), define error budgets, and use them to guide reliability improvements.

Reduce operational toil through automation, self-service tooling, and repeatable engineering practices.

Own capacity planning, performance tuning, cloud cost optimization, and production readiness reviews.

Cloud infrastructure and platform engineering

Manage AWS services such as EC2, EKS, VPC, IAM, RDS/Aurora, S3, CloudWatch, Route 53, and load balancing.

Manage Azure services such as Virtual Machines, AKS, Virtual Networks, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure SQL, Storage, Azure Monitor, and Application Gateway.

Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform or equivalent tools, with appropriate testing, review, and change controls.

Operate Kubernetes and container platforms, including deployments, upgrades, scaling, networking, access controls, and troubleshooting.

Engineer secure connectivity across cloud environments and client networks, including private endpoints, VPNs, AWS Direct Connect, and Azure ExpressRoute.

Develop reliable CI/CD workflows with deployment safeguards, rollback strategies, configuration management, and secrets management.

Reliability and production operations

Establish observability across metrics, logs, traces, synthetic checks, and actionable alerting.

Lead incident response for critical services, including incident coordination, technical troubleshooting, stakeholder updates, and recovery.

Own on-call practices, escalation paths, operational runbooks, and incident readiness.

Drive blameless post-incident reviews and ensure corrective actions are completed.

Define and validate backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures against agreed recovery time and recovery point objectives (RTO/RPO).

Improve resilience through failure testing, dependency analysis, and controlled recovery exercises.

Security and financial services requirements

Partner with security and compliance teams to implement least-privilege access, encryption, key management, vulnerability remediation, and audit logging.

Operate within client requirements for data protection, data residency, segregation of duties, and controlled production access.

Support security reviews, audits, and evidence collection for applicable standards and regulatory requirements, such as PCI DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and relevant banking regulations.

Ensure production changes are traceable, reviewed, tested, and aligned with client change-management processes.

Design and operate infrastructure supporting sensitive financial workloads and critical transaction services.

Team leadership and management

Hire, mentor, and manage a team of SRE engineers, setting clear expectations and supporting career development.

Own team priorities, delivery planning, performance reviews, and skills development.

Balance hands-on engineering with delegation and development of technical ownership within the team.

Build a sustainable on-call model and manage workload, coverage, and operational health.

Establish engineering standards and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Work closely with application engineering, architecture, security, delivery, and support teams.

Client engagement

Serve as the primary SRE contact for major banking and fintech clients.

Translate client requirements and contractual service commitments into technical designs and operational plans.

Lead service reviews, reliability discussions, incident reviews, and infrastructure planning sessions.

Communicate incidents, risks, dependencies, and remediation plans clearly to both technical and business stakeholders.

Manage client escalations and coordinate internal teams to deliver timely resolution.

Present service performance, reliability trends, capacity forecasts, and improvement roadmaps.

Required Skills and Experience

Strong production engineering experience across both AWS and Azure, including architecture, networking, security, and operations.

Demonstrated experience managing an SRE, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or platform engineering team.

Recent hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD platforms.

Strong Linux administration, networking, and troubleshooting skills, including DNS, TLS, HTTP, routing, firewalls, and load balancing.

Proficiency in at least one automation language, such as Python, Go, or PowerShell, along with shell scripting.

Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Open Telemetry, LGTM Stack, Splunk, or cloud-native monitoring services.

Practical understanding of SLOs, error budgets, incident management, distributed systems, and resilience engineering.

Experience operating databases, caches, and messaging systems, with an understanding of replication, failover, backup, and recovery.

Proven ability to lead major production incidents and deliver lasting improvements.

Strong client-facing communication skills, including experience handling escalations and explaining technical tradeoffs.

Experience supporting banking, fintech, payments, or other highly regulated production environments.

Preferred Qualifications

AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or relevant Kubernetes certifications.

Experience with payment platforms, digital banking, transaction processing, or financial APIs.

Experience with hybrid cloud, multi-region architectures, and private connectivity to enterprise environments.

Familiarity with ITIL processes and enterprise service management tools such as ServiceNow or Jira Service Management.

What Success Looks Like

Services consistently meet agreed reliability and performance objectives.

Major incidents are managed effectively, with clear client communication and measurable reductions in repeat failures.

Infrastructure is secure, automated, recoverable, and cost-efficient.

The team grows in capability and operates with sustainable workloads.

Banking and fintech clients have confidence in service operations and the reliability improvement roadmap.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
