The posting

Litigation Legal Assistant – San Francisco, CA – (Hybrid)

$80k to $100k

Our client seeks a Litigation Legal Assistant with 3-5 years of experience to support a Partner in a Native American law practice in San Francisco. The role also supports the SF office's Environment & Energy practice. We want a versatile, reliable professional who knows California and federal court filing, proofreads carefully, and is happy to take on litigation support, attorney administration, and office support.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting a Native American law Partner and other attorneys with litigation: drafting and proofreading pleadings, preparing exhibits, and managing California, federal, and tribal court filings
  • Calendaring, docketing, and managing electronic and paper files, plus scheduling hearings, conferences, and mediations
  • Handling attorney administration: entering time, reviewing prebills, tracking client budgets, booking travel, and processing expenses
  • Helping with office services such as reception, greeting visitors and coordinating with building security, stocking supplies, copier upkeep, and mail
  • Handling last-minute litigation deadlines when they come up
  • Conducts legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or specialized AI legal research platforms
  • Drafts, proofreads, cite-checks, and formats legal documents
  • Coordinates the assembly of exhibits, binders, and required documentation
  • Assists attorneys in drafting discovery requests
  • Utilizes AI-assisted eDiscovery and document management platforms
  • Handles state (CA), federal, tribal courts, and administrative tribunal filings
  • Updates and maintains client data, matter profiles, and conflict-checking systems
  • Coordinates complex calendars, scheduling client consultations, depositions, and internal team meetings

Key Requirements

  • 3-5 years of law firm legal assistant experience with litigation support (this range is flexible)
  • Strong working knowledge of California and federal court filing procedures (PACER, CM/ECF), or the know-how to find the rules quickly
  • Excellent proofreading and attention to detail
  • Genuinely open to administrative and office support work, including time entry and prebills, not just litigation tasks
  • Stable work history without frequent job changes, and able to commute to downtown SF at least 2 days a week

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
