The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), as part of the Polar Medicine Support Team within the ICT Networks & Infrastructure Section, is seeking a Senior ICT Clinical Systems Administrator / Medical Systems Integrator (EL1 equivalent) to support the Australian Antarctic Division's (AAD) critical medical operating environment.

The role is responsible for ensuring that the devices, applications, and software systems supporting Polar Medicine operations are effectively integrated and maintained to enable the delivery of secure and reliable 24/7 clinical and telemedical services across the AAD's operational environments.

This includes support for the AAD Kingston, Tasmania headquarters, Australia's Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations, remote mobile medical facilities, and Antarctic research and resupply vessels.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Polar Medicine ICT Support Team Leader, the Medical Systems Support Officer, and members of the ICT Infrastructure Services team.

Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, vendors, and operational teams, the resource will provide specialised Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Digital Health support across medical systems integration, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and operational support environments. The role will contribute to ensuring the secure, reliable, and efficient delivery of digital health and medical ICT services supporting AAD operations.

Please note: This role is based in Tasmania and onsite attendance is preferred.

Key duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate is responsible for but not limited in its duties for:

  • Digital health system integration for the Polar Medicine Unit (PMU) of the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) with divisional and Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) ICT platforms.
  • Technical support for electronic recruitment (e-Recruit) and PMU medical screening system integrations.
  • Cybersecurity support for medical systems, applications, and devices, including security assessments, vendor solution reviews, and secure system enhancements.
  • Health cybersecurity risk assessments and preventative security initiatives, including coordination of penetration testing activities where required.
  • Support and integration activities with AAD in-house operational applications.
  • Medical record system enhancements, scripting, programming, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Medical data integration, database maintenance, recovery operations, and query support.
  • Delivery of major software upgrades and enhancements for medical systems.
  • Design and support of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and digital infrastructure within medical facilities, including stations, Containerised Medical Facility (CMF), Deep Field Medical (DMF) facilities, and field camps.
  • Fault triage and troubleshooting prior to escalation to external vendors for non-Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) related issues.
  • Configuration and support of secure telehealth and remote video conferencing solutions, including VisionFlex and TeleMedic.
  • Medical network support, including Wi-Fi, Local Area Network (LAN), switches, firewalls, Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), and secure medical traffic configurations across stations and RSV Nuyina (research and supply vessel).
  • Support for Digital Health Efficiency projects, with a focus on medical screening systems including Abby FlexiCapture, Intrahealth Profile, contractor portals, and secure messaging integrations using Health Level Seven (HL7), Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR), and Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standards.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
