The posting

Job Title: Senior Software Developer — Professional Service Company: SMRTR Location: United States or Canada, Remote Employment Type : Full-time

About Us

You will join the engineering team that serves three Solen Software Group companies: DTEC, which builds ERP software for distribution businesses; Shea, a SYSPRO ERP partner; and SMRTR, a document-management and supplier-compliance software company. Our customers run their day-to-day operations on our systems, and they count on us to understand their business, not just the software.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a senior, hands-on developer who enjoys working directly with customers. Your first priority will be clearing DTEC's development backlog and stabilising the product. From there, you will deliver customer projects (customisations, reports, integrations and enhancements) for DTEC customers and for Shea's SYSPRO customers.

Most of your time will be billable customer work, with real ownership of scope, estimates and delivery dates. You will also help move DTEC onto our modern stack (Vue, TypeScript, Node.js and PostgreSQL).

Key Responsibilities

Backlog and product stability (first priority)

  • Work through the DTEC development backlog with engineering leadership, agreeing scope and dates for each item.
  • Investigate and fix defects in the DTEC product, including legacy Visual FoxPro code.
  • Improve release quality and reduce repeat support issues.

Customer projects

  • Gather requirements with customers, estimate effort and agree scope before work starts.
  • Develop, test and deploy customisations, reports, data fixes and integrations for DTEC and Shea customers, including SYSPRO work.
  • Give customers regular, clear status updates and manage change requests.
  • Track time accurately against projects for monthly billing.

Modernisation

  • Build and maintain components on our modern stack (Vue, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL) as DTEC modernises.

Ways of working

  • Use Jira and Git, document your changes and hand over cleanly to support.
  • Share knowledge and set good practices for other developers.

What You Bring

Required

  • 5+ years developing or customising ERP or business software, including customer-facing project work.
  • Visual FoxPro development experience.
  • Production experience with Vue.js, TypeScript, Node.js and PostgreSQL.
  • Strong SQL and data skills.
  • Experience estimating work and delivering to agreed dates; comfortable with billable, time-tracked work.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with non-technical customers.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada; set up for remote work.

Nice to Have

  • SYSPRO development or customisation experience.
  • Android or Xamarin.
  • Distribution, food & beverage or manufacturing industry experience.
  • Report writing (e.g., Crystal Reports, SSRS) and ERP integration experience.
  • Jira.

How Success Is Measured

  • Reduction in the open development backlog
  • Billable utilisation
  • Projects delivered on time and within estimate
  • Quality of fixes (reopened defects, regressions)
  • Customer satisfaction

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary of CAD 100,000–120,000, depending on experience
  • Benefits, PTO and other programs
  • Fully remote work with a collaborative, experienced team

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.
