GETs Engineer Job Description
Work Locations: GPC HQ; 241 Ralph McGill, Atlanta, GA Desired Grade Level: L4 – L6 - depending on experience and qualifications Relocation: Relocation assistance will be available for consideration Travel Frequency: Up to 25% of the Time
This position will work a hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute (subject to adjustment).

This position is critical to advancing Georgia Power Company's integration of emerging grid technologies to support customers' evolving energy needs. This role will own the technical direction for the identification, evaluation, development, and deployment of advanced grid solutions, including support for major initiatives such as assessments and technical reporting for regulatory and government requirements. This position will also coordinate cross-functionally with technical business units and planners to validate and inform elements of the overall Grid Enhancing Technologies (“GETs”) strategy, and process to ultimately drive adoption of these innovative technologies across our business.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead coordination for the technical evaluation and deployment of emerging grid solutions, with a particular focus on Grid-Enhancing Technologies (GETs).
- Move grid-enhancing technologies from concept to operational reality by providing technical evaluations and engineering evidence to support utility adoption.
- Provide technical rigor to frameworks and processes for GETs integration, ensuring alignment with regulatory commitments, Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), and documentation requirements.
- Integrate GET solutions into the Southern Company transmission expansion planning process, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and alternative analysis requirements.
- Own technical value proposition for solutions that address system thermal and voltage constraints and evaluate effectiveness and reliability with technology providers to support utility adoption.
- Coordinate the technical evaluation, assessment, and reporting of projects, with a focus on equipment and solutions ready for deployment.
- Translate technical findings into clear, compelling reports and executive summaries that inform enterprise decision-making.
- Collaborate cross-functionally across Southern Company to ensure consistent execution and understanding of emerging grid technologies.
- Represent Georgia Power internally and externally to communicate technical efforts and build strategic partnerships.
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
- Bachelor's degree required; a degree in engineering or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience with regulatory or federal processes and procedures.
- Proven experience in technical project coordination, preferably in bulk power delivery, grid technologies, or energy infrastructure.
- Experience with power system analysis, including power flow, contingency analysis, system constraints, or related engineering studies.
- Strong technical and analytical skills to assess opportunities, evaluate performance, and implement effective solutions.
- Technical expertise in Transmission & Distribution systems, planning models, GETs, and emerging energy technologies preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with internal and external audiences.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills to manage complex reporting, compliance requirements, and fast-paced projects.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for engaging internal and external stakeholders
