Job Description

About Us

Georgia Power is a leading energy provider committed to delivering safe, reliable, and affordable energy solutions to the communities we serve. We are dedicated to operational excellence, strong customer service, and safe execution across our electric system. As part of the Strategic Projects Portfolio, we are seeking an SPP Outage Coordinator to support statewide construction execution through effective switching coordination, outage scheduling, and operational communication.

Position Overview

The SPP Outage Coordinator is a utility operations and construction support role reporting to the SPP Construction Field Manager. The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate switching requests and outage schedules necessary for the safe execution of Strategic Projects Portfolio construction work. This role supports construction teams by reviewing and routing prearranged switching requests, maintaining switching schedules and calendars, tracking switching requests from submission through execution, and communicating operational constraints that may impact project delivery. The position requires strong coordination with Distribution Control Centers (DCC), Transmission Maintenance Centers (TMC), Distribution Operations, Construction Coordinators, contractors, engineers, and field personnel to help ensure safe, organized, and timely project execution across Georgia Power’s service territory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate switching requests required to support Strategic Projects Portfolio construction activities.
  • Support outage scheduling associated with project execution, including review of timing, constraints, dependencies, and operational readiness.
  • Review, route, and track prearranged switching requests from submission through approval and execution.
  • Coordinate with DCC, TMC, Distribution Operations, Construction Coordinators, contractors, engineers, and field personnel to align work plans with operational requirements.
  • Maintain switching schedules, switching calendars, request logs, approvals, and supporting documentation.
  • Review contractor Plans of the Week and identify potential conflicts involving switching, outage availability, crew access, construction sequencing, or other operational constraints.
  • Communicate switching constraints, schedule conflicts, and outage coordination concerns to project teams in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support safe construction execution by helping ensure proper operational coordination before field work begins.
  • Manage abnormal conditions created by SPP program work and ensure they are promptly returned to normal operating status.
  • Verify the official switching map before and after construction to ensure it accurately reflects true field status.
  • Support the development, improvement, and maintenance of outage and switching coordination processes for statewide SPP work.
  • Support occasional after-hours and weekend switching activities when required for project execution.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with operations, construction, engineering, contractor, and field partners.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • Experience in distribution operations, utility construction, system operations, outage coordination, switching coordination, or a related utility operations support function.
  • Strong commitment to safety, operational discipline, and reliable electric system execution.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple switching requests, schedules, work plans, and project priorities at the same time.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with operations, construction, engineering, contractor, and field personnel.
  • Ability to identify scheduling conflicts, communicate constraints, follow up on open items, and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced operational and construction environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in or closely with a Distribution Control Center.
  • Experience coordinating with a Transmission Maintenance Center or supporting transmission-related operational coordination.
  • Knowledge of Georgia Power switching practices, outage coordination expectations, and operational approval processes.
  • Experience with TCMS, NMS, MOBI, Unifier, or similar operational, construction, scheduling, or work management tools.
  • Experience supporting utility construction programs, large construction portfolios, statewide work plans, or field execution teams.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
