The posting

Spotify’s Subscriptions Mission focuses on converting listeners into lifelong subscribers by delivering seamless, valuable experiences across pricing, packaging, and customer journeys. We build the systems and tools that power acquisition, retention, and overall subscription growth at scale.

At Spotify, our Commerce Platform powers the technology behind the subscription experience. From merchandising and order management to payment orchestration and purchase flows, our team builds the backend services and data systems that help millions of listeners access the Spotify experiences they love.

We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help us evolve our commerce technology and build reliable, scalable services. You'll join a collaborative engineering team where you'll solve meaningful technical challenges, develop your skills, and contribute to a high-performing platform. If you enjoy working with complex systems and seeing the impact of your work, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and deliver backend capabilities that support Spotify's commerce platform, from solution design through to production.
  • Develop and improve scalable services powering merchandising, order management, payment orchestration, and purchase experiences.
  • Work with complex, high-traffic systems to improve reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with engineers and teams across Spotify to deliver solutions that support our listeners and subscription business.
  • Work with cloud infrastructure, databases, and data pipelines to build and maintain reliable backend systems.
  • Contribute to technical discussions, engineering workshops, and solution reviews, sharing ideas and learning from your peers.
  • Help improve engineering practices and contribute to a collaborative environment where knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement are part of everyday work.

Who You Are

  • You have experience developing and scaling backend services using Java, Python, or similar technologies in a cloud environment such as Google Cloud Platform.
  • You're familiar with scalable database technologies such as PostgreSQL and understand the fundamentals of building reliable backend systems.
  • You have exposure to data systems and pipelines, or you're interested in developing your expertise in this area.
  • You enjoy tackling technical challenges, breaking down complex problems, and finding practical solutions.
  • You communicate clearly and are comfortable sharing ideas, participating in technical discussions, and presenting your work to others.
  • You're proactive, take ownership of your work, and enjoy learning new technologies and approaches.
  • You value collaboration, feedback, and working with people from different technical backgrounds to achieve shared goals.
  • Experience in e-commerce, payments, or financial engineering is valuable, but not essential.

Where You'll Be

  • This role is based in London or Stockholm
  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
