Are you looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on organ donation by evaluating potential donors, coordinating clinical care, and helping maximize opportunities for successful donation? This role is ideal for an experienced healthcare professional who works well in fast-paced, sensitive, and highly collaborative environments.

As an Organ Recovery Coordinator I, you will evaluate the medical eligibility of potential organ donor referrals and organ imports, coordinate donation activities, and support the comprehensive clinical management of donors. You will collaborate with hospital teams, coordinate organ allocation, recovery, preservation, transportation, and documentation, and serve as a clinical resource for Hospital Services and Family Services. This position reports to the Manager of Recovery Services.

We are committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our team members, with opportunities to expand skills, take on additional responsibilities, and advance within the organization. In this role, you will be expected to consistently perform your work safely, ethically, and in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, and applicable laws and regulations. Your commitment to safety, integrity, and compassionate care will be essential to supporting donors, their families, healthcare partners, and our mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to donor referrals, complete follow-up evaluations, and determine organ and tissue suitability using LCO, CMS, OPTN/UNOS, AOPO, and CDC guidelines.
  • Apply legal and hospital requirements for death declaration and organ donation, identify the legal next-of-kin, and assess family dynamics and support needs.
  • Clinically manage donors under established protocols and collaborate with hospital teams to support optimal organ function.
  • Coordinate organ allocation, recovery, preservation, transportation, recovery teams, and related specimen collection and labeling.
  • Identify organ-, tissue-, and behavior-specific risk factors and serve as a clinical resource for Hospital Services and Family Services.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential donor records, complete post-recovery documentation and quality control, and support departmental quality-improvement projects.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in nursing, respiratory therapy, EMT, paramedic medicine, a related biological science, or certification as a paramedic required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing, respiratory therapy, or a related biological science preferred.
  • Organ recovery coordination or hospital emergency room, intensive care, or surgical experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while demonstrating sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to respond sensitively to individual needs and values.
  • Strong computer and data-entry skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet-based systems.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required within 12 months of hire; Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator certification required within 24 months.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work 12-hour shifts outside normal business hours, respond promptly to dispatches, and travel to assigned work sites. The role operates across office and hospital clinical settings and requires lifting to 75 pounds and assisting with donor transfers. Reasonable accommodation may be available.

We offer:

  • Paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • Retirement savings benefits.
  • Employer-supported professional development and training opportunities.
  • Additional employee wellness and support resources.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
