Summer 2027 Facilities Planning Internship

The Southwest Airlines’ Facilities Planning Intern may be asked to support a variety of projects within the Corporate Facilities Team. They'll support the Corporate Facilities Team in leading strategic projects and ensuring alignment within the Department, as well as with other Departments. This role assists with cross-functional initiatives, process improvements, and project oversight to ensure timely and high-quality execution. Responsibilities include conducting research and analysis, preparing reports, and providing insights from data. The intern will also collaborate with others across the Facilities organization and may support data analytics projects.

Additional Details

  • Join Southwest as a Summer 2027 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 18 – August 8, 2027.
  • Pay of $21-$24 per hour, corresponding with progress toward degree.
  • Stipends may be offered based on eligibility and program criteria.

Due to the nature of this role, you would be required to work from our Dallas, TX headquarters facility during business hours (2702 Love Field Drive).
  • Dedicate 40 hours each week (maximum of 8 hours per day) to your internship responsibilities and tasks.
  • Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel).
  • Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship
  • U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of Facilities Planning Intern may include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Leaders and counterparts throughout the Facilities organization to deliver prioritized Department objectives
  • Drive internal and cross-departmental initiatives in support of Facilities strategy and continuous process improvement
  • Deliver process enhancements and special projects across the Facilities function
  • Perform project oversight to ensure work is planned, executed, and reported on in a timely manner and with high quality
  • Perform and interpret ad hoc research and analysis to assist with driving decisions
  • Develop accurate, timely, and comprehensive reports to facilitate management decision-making
  • May perform other job duties as directed by employee’s leaders.

Education:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
  • Progress toward a degree, major, or minor in in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Data Analytics, Project Management, Consulting, Facilities Management or similar degree required
  • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred
  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by your university) at the time of application and during the internship
  • At least 3 semesters remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application

Experience

  • Preferred: Ability to use active listening skills to learn and understand other perspectives and the impacts of a project on their processes
  • Preferred: Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas using multiple forms of communication, adjusting tone, style, and content to meet the audience’s needs
  • Preferred: Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, recognizing issues early
  • Preferred: Basic understanding of root cause and/or trend analysis
  • Preferred: Pursues changes to operational or analytical status quo that serve to increase efficiency and/or generate revenue (e.g., developing automation, creating new reporting)
  • Preferred: Identifies project/analysis opportunities and is able to prioritize in context of other work
  • Preferred: Involvement in campus organizations, clubs, or extracurricular activities
  • Preferred: Microsoft Suite experience, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
