Summer 2027 Flight Operations Services & Standards Internship

The Southwest Airlines’ Flight Operations Services & Standards Intern will work on projects across several Teams that support our Employees, Customers, communities, and business. If hired, Interns may be selected to support one of the following Teams:

  • Flight Ops Base Services: This Team supports Pilot base operations by serving as a key resource for base-related questions and requests from Chief Pilots, Base Coordinators, Pilots, and Flight Operations partners. Interns will gain hands-on experience supporting operational and base programs while providing Customer Service and assisting with processes that help keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.
  • Flight Ops Training & Standards: This Team supports pilot training, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives across Flight Operations. Interns will assist with maintaining training materials, researching operational requirements, tracking action items, and documenting current processes while gaining hands-on experience in process analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and projects that enhance training and operational effectiveness.

Additional Details

  • Join Southwest as a Summer 2027 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 18 – August 8, 2027.
  • Pay of $21-$24 per hour, corresponding with progress toward degree.
  • Stipends may be offered based on eligibility and program criteria.

Due to the nature of this role, you would be required to work from our Dallas, TX headquarters facility during business hours (2702 Love Field Drive).
  • Dedicate 40 hours each week (maximum of 8 hours per day) to your internship responsibilities and tasks.
  • Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel).
  • Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship
  • U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Partners with the Base Services Team and Flight Ops Pilot Base Staff to assist with questions, research issues, and help identify resolutions
  • Assists with monitoring and responding to inquiries or requests via shared inbox, phone, or other contact methods, following established processes and service expectations
  • Provides administrative support for daily tasks related to Flight Operations programs, base programs, and base services
  • Documents questions, trends, issues, or process improvement ideas and escalates them to the appropriate Team Member or Leader
  • Supports onboarding, training materials, or job aids for Base Services processes, as needed
  • Assists with coordination, scheduling, logistics, and materials for meetings, recurrent training, and other Base Services events
  • Maintains and updates tracking tools, databases, and documentation used to support Flight Ops programs and base services
  • Reviews existing process documentation and job aids for clarity, consistency, and accuracy, and recommends updates
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information
  • Air travel with occasional overnight stays required
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of, or interest in learning about, Pilot base operations, including base services, standard operating procedures, technology tools, and Flight Operations support processes
  • Basic knowledge of, or interest in learning about, the role of Southwest Pilots and the operational support needed to serve Pilot groups
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication with a focus on clear, friendly, and professional Customer Service
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other productivity tools
  • Ability to stay organized, manage multiple tasks, and follow through on assigned work with attention to detail
  • Ability to balance competing priorities, ask questions, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to research issues, identify next steps, and seek guidance when needed to help resolve problems
  • Ability to think critically, consider downstream impacts, and use available resources when supporting process or service recommendations
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with enterprise partners to resolve issues
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a Team, providing internal Customer Service
  • Ability to apply established policies, procedures, and resources while seeking guidance before making decisions that may impact operations or Customers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to perform work duties from a limited-space workstation, desk, or office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
  • Progress toward a degree, major, or minor in Aviation Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Communications, or a related field preferred
  • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred
  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by your university) at the time of application and during the internship
  • At least 3 semesters remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process

Experience

  • Preferred: Experience, coursework, or demonstrated interest in one or more of the following:
  • Customer Service, administration, coordination, planning, or operational support
  • Aviation, Flight Operations, Pilot base operations, or airline operations
