The posting

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re building our quality practice from the ground up, and you’ll be our first dedicated QA team member. Today, testing is handled by our developers and product team. Our mobile app is built in React Native and ships on both iOS and Android. You’ll start with hands-on manual testing across both platforms, then build the foundations for automation: UI/UX regression tests and software test fixtures that simulate point-of-sale (POS) terminals, so we’re no longer tied to physical hardware for every test cycle. Much of that work will be done in TypeScript and Node.js, so this role is a good fit for someone who enjoys writing code, debugging, and building tools. Because there’s no established QA team yet, you’ll work closely with the engineering team and have real influence shaping how we test, what tools we use, and how quality is measured.

This is a great fit for a curious, self-motivated person who wants to learn fast, take ownership early, and help define what QA looks like at our company.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Create our first formal end-to-end manual test plans and execute them on iOS and Android for new features, bug fixes, and release candidates

- Write clear, reusable test cases from product requirements, designs, and user stories, and organize them into a living test library

- Identify, document, and track defects with precise reproduction steps, noting whether issues are platform-specific or shared across iOS and Android, and work directly with developers to verify fixes

- Use Node.js and TypeScript tooling to debug issues, inspect logs and API traffic, and help pinpoint root causes

- Perform exploratory testing to uncover edge cases, device and OS-version differences, and usability issues

- Help establish baseline QA processes: bug reporting standards, release checklists, and test documentation

- Begin building automated UI/UX regression tests for our React Native app

- Develop test fixtures and mock services in TypeScript and Node.js that simulate POS terminal behavior, reducing our reliance on physical hardware

- Help evaluate and recommend testing tools and frameworks, and bring automated tests into our CI/CD pipeline over time

- Partner with engineers and product managers during project planning, standups, and release readiness reviews

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

REQUIRED

- Hands-on programming experience in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js. You’re comfortable writing scripts and small services, working with async code, using npm, and debugging with logs. Coursework, internships, bootcamps, and personal projects all count.

- Working familiarity with React and React Native (components, props, state, hooks, and how a UI renders), enough to understand how our app behaves and where bugs tend to come from. Building even a small React Native project, such as a personal or course app, is great preparation.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

- Understanding of the software development lifecycle and core QA concepts (test plans, test cases, regression and smoke testing, bug lifecycle)

- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving

- Self-motivation and comfort with ambiguity: you’ll often figure out the “how” yourself rather than follow an existing playbook

- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence to raise quality concerns with the engineering team and product stakeholders

NICE TO HAVE

- Experience with React Native tooling such as Expo, Metro, or React Native debugging tools

- Experience with mobile UI automation frameworks such as Detox, Maestro, or Appium (WebdriverIO)

- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript testing tools such as Jest, Vitest, or React Native Testing Library

- Experience testing mobile apps on iOS and Android devices, simulators, and emulators (Xcode Simulator, Android Studio)

- Experience with Node.js servers or frameworks (e.g., Express, Fastify) and building or consuming REST APIs, WebSockets, or mock servers

- Experience with Git and basic version control workflows

- Familiarity with bug tracking and test management tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail)

- Familiarity with API tools like Postman

- Interest in or exposure to payments, POS systems, or hardware integrations

- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Bitrise, EAS)

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN AND GROW INTO

- Designing a scalable React Native UI automation framework from the ground up

- Building mocks, simulators, and test fixtures for hardware and payment integrations in a production-quality Node.js and TypeScript codebase

- Understanding how React Native apps interact with native iOS and Android layers, and where platform-specific bugs come from

- Gaining hands-on exposure to debugging distributed systems, including tracing issues across services, understanding common failure modes, and learning proven solution approaches alongside our engineers

- Defining QA standards and best practices that the company will build on

- Shifting quality left by partnering with developers earlier in the development cycle

- Growing into a senior or lead quality role as the QA function expands, with the chance to help hire and onboard future team members

WHAT WE OFFER

- Direct access to our engineering team, who will support your technical growth and give you context on our codebase, architecture, and POS integrations

- High visibility and real ownership: your work will directly shape how we ship

- $60,000 - $80,000

- 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, with four Blue Cross Blue Shield medical plans to choose from (including an HSA-eligible option) and dental and vision through Guardian

- Unlimited PTO and a location-agnostic schedule, so you can work from anywhere in the U.S.A.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
