The posting

About the role

Our client, a container shipping line, is looking for an experienced operations leader to head its Line Operations function for Asia, based in Singapore. Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, you will lead a team of operations managers and keep vessel operations across the Asia network reliable, cost efficient and aligned with commercial goals. You will be responsible for schedule reliability, service quality, operating cost control, and bunker and vessel performance, working closely with many teams and partners.

What you will do

  • Lead and guide the Asia Line Operations team and review its performance.
  • Make sure vessel operations meet agreed service standards, proforma schedules, Vessel Sharing Agreement requirements and company procedures.
  • Protect schedule reliability by monitoring vessel performance, spotting possible delays, and agreeing recovery plans with internal and external parties.
  • Oversee port calls, berthing, bunkering, terminal coordination and follow-up with local agents, so vessels turn around on time.
  • Control operating costs across Asia services, including vessel expenses, bunker consumption and port costs, and work with regional teams, agents and terminals to find savings.
  • Track and report key measures such as schedule reliability, bunker consumption, cost performance and service recovery.
  • Work with fleet operations, stowage, network, trade, capacity, logistics, procurement, finance and regional agencies so operational decisions support service and cost goals.
  • Give operational input to vessel deployment and service studies, such as vessel suitability, port rotations, terminal limits and bunker needs.
  • Lead continuous improvement, stronger governance, better performance dashboards and digital workflows.
  • Uphold safety, regulatory and environmental requirements, including dangerous goods, special cargo and incident escalation.
  • Act as the escalation point for disruptions, port congestion, schedule changes and partner coordination issues.
  • Coach the team, build succession depth and support crisis management and strategic projects as directed.

Working with others

  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, agents, terminals, vessel masters, owners and partners.
  • Represent Asia Line Operations in cross-functional reviews, planning meetings and escalation forums.
  • Communicate clearly and early about schedule risks, recovery plans, cost impacts and port constraints.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Management or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in liner shipping, vessel operations, marine operations or regional operations with container liner companies.
  • Experience managing teams in a fast-paced, multi-service operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of vessel scheduling, port operations, bunker planning, service recovery, VSA coordination, cost control and performance management.
  • Experience across Asia trade lanes, ports, agents and terminals is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, including KPI tracking, cost analysis and operational reporting.
  • Good written and spoken English, with strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills; Power BI, QlikView or similar dashboard tools are preferred.
  • Willingness to respond to operational matters across time zones when needed.
  • Sea-going experience is an advantage but not essential.

Key strengths

Operational leadership, schedule reliability and service recovery, cost discipline, cross-team collaboration, problem solving under time pressure, process improvement, a safety and compliance mindset, and strong accountability.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
