Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Senior Systems Administrator to join the Systems team in Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions on a permanent, full-time contract.

Key responsibilities:

  • Operate, administer, and support the University’s enterprise IT infrastructure to deliver reliable, secure, and highly available services.
  • Provide incident, request, and problem resolution across Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, identity, storage, and related infrastructure services.
  • Monitor, maintain, patch, and improve systems in line with agreed service levels, operational requirements, and change processes.
  • Support project delivery, operational handover, documentation, and continuous improvement across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid platforms.
  • Contribute to rostered 24/7 on-call support, scheduled maintenance, and after-hours work where required to maintain critical University services.

You will be an experienced Senior Systems Administrator with strong enterprise systems capability, sound judgement, and a collaborative approach. You will bring proven experience supporting secure, reliable, and well-managed services across Microsoft, cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments, while helping maintain service continuity during a fixed-term backfill period.

You will have:

  • Experience in a systems administration role within a complex, service-oriented enterprise environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 products in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience implementing, maintaining, and supporting on-premises and hybrid systems, including Windows Server, identity services, storage, networking services, and virtualisation platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound technical recommendations.
  • The ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders in a complex environment.
  • A broad understanding of digital systems, integrations, infrastructure lifecycle management, operational support, and service continuity.
