Support staff: 1 -1 Teaching Assistant - Scartho Gateway Academy

Scartho Gateway Academy opened in September 2025 and now has 152 pupils and will eventually provide for up to 210 mainstream pupils, from Reception to Year 6.

The Academy also includes an RSP, which will cater for up to 12 children from across North East Lincolnshire who have identified Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

We are looking for an experienced teaching assistant who demonstrates a strong desire to ensure all children are able to develop their skills and confidence, using adaptive, personalised teaching strategies. Initially, the role will be providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring their individual needs are understood and appropriately supported. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, pastoral staff, parents/carers and other professionals involved in the child’s education and care. The role will require the successful candidate to support the child to access learning by adapting activities, resources and methods of communication according to their individual needs and abilities, whilst implementing strategies and recommendations outlined in the child’s EHCP, individual support plan, risk assessments and other relevant documentation. Please see the job description for a more detailed breakdown.

The successful candidate will hold ambitious expectations for all students, including those with additional and special educational needs and disabilities and embed a culture where all can access the curriculum and learn effectively.

Scartho Gateway Academy is working closely with Trauma Informed Schools UK to support the development of our vision, values and curriculum. It is essential that the successful candidate champions our principles of trauma awareness and relational learning, building strong, trusting relationships with our children to create a safe learning environment.

An ability to be creative and adaptable is crucial. A commitment to ensuring the new academies are fully inclusive schools is essential.

Our ethos is one of an uncompromising drive to achieve the highest standards of outcomes and behaviour in a safe environment, which encourages every student to experience an exciting and creative climate for learning. We place a strong emphasis upon pastoral care and teaching assistants will share the determination to offer the very best to our students so that they can thrive personally and academically.

The role will start as soon as the successful candidate is available.

A full package of on-going CPD is in place to support our staff team as part of the whole school relational approach. This will include regular supervision.

Applications should be submitted via My New Term by 9.00am on Wednesday 7 October 2026. The personal statement should include:

  • Why you are interested in this role
  • The personal qualities and experience that you will bring to the role
  • The contribution you can make to the continued success of the Trust

Candidates will be selected for interview and contacted on Friday 9 October 2026.

Interviews will take place w/b Monday 12 October 2026.

Please contact the Principal, Mrs Melanie Portlock, for further details about the role and/or the new academies - [email protected]

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As part of this process, all successful applicants are required to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure. Other checks including social media will be carried out in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
