The posting

We are delighted to invite applications for the role of Head of Department of Modern Foreign Languages at Liberty Academy. This is a full-time, permanent position and an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and passionate teacher to lead and shape the future of languages within our academy. Languages is one of the most successful subjects within the academy and staff care deeply about the experience that students have.

Liberty Academy is a large 11-16 secondary school in Hull with a strong sense of community and a high level of commitment. We are a team that believes that we can achieve anything together. This is a particularly exciting time to join us with innovation in teaching and learning practices within the Trust.

Liberty Academy is a welcoming, inclusive school at the heart of the Hull community, where every child is known, valued, and supported to achieve their potential. We place a strong emphasis on safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive relationships, ensuring pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to attend school every day.

Liberty Academy offers a positive working environment, strong leadership support, and the opportunity to have a meaningful impact on young people’s futures within a school that genuinely cares about its community.

Modern Foreign Languages is a very supportive department with strong backing from senior leaders. As Curriculum Lead, you will play a key role in driving the vision for languages, inspiring both students and colleagues, and further raising the profile of MFL across the school. Languages are celebrated widely throughout the academy and we encourage international experience as much as classroom practice.

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking leader who can teach French to Key Stage 4 and is committed to delivering high-quality, engaging lessons. You will have the opportunity to build on our well-resourced Key Stage 3 curriculum, shaping its development in line with current specifications and best practice, while bringing fresh ideas and innovation to the department.

The core focus of the Head of Department’s role is raising pupil achievement. Central to this is leading and guiding staff working within the designated curriculum areas, and, in so doing, fostering an environment within which teaching and learning is the key priority with a desire for it to be of the highest possible quality and each member of the team is able to develop to the full the pupils in our care.

At Liberty, we value creativity and encourage new approaches to teaching and learning. Our curriculum is designed to broaden students’ horizons and enhance their cultural capital. Assessment is centrally planned to ensure consistency and to support a manageable workload, allowing staff to focus on what matters most, excellent teaching.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring or experienced middle leader to make a real impact within a supportive and forward-thinking school.

What we can offer:

  • Experienced and supportive School Leadership Team
  • Opportunities for staff to develop through Continuous Professional Development
  • Local Government Pension scheme
  • Occupational Health
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free on site parking

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
