The posting

Mobile Support Manager

Felixstowe School

Contract: Part-time, Permanent - 37 hours per week/ 40 weeks per year

Salary: NJC Scale 5, SP 12-17 (FTE: £29,541 - £32,046 / Actual: £25,834 - £28,024 per annum)

Start date: ASAP

Be the calm presence that changes the direction of a young person’s day. We are looking for an exceptional Mobile Support Manager to join our pastoral team: someone visible, resilient and brilliant with young people. This is not a teaching post, but it is a role with real influence. Every timely conversation, calm intervention and clear boundary can help a student return to learning, repair a relationship and make a better choice. No two days will be quite the same.

You will work across the school, responding when support is needed, helping students arrive at lessons ready to learn and bringing calm and clarity to challenging situations.

You will also support our Restoration Room and support students to achieve their full potential, helping them reflect, rebuild trust and make a successful return to school life in lessons.

What you will do

  • Provide responsive “On Call” support during lessons and help staff manage behaviour incidents.
  • Encourage students to arrive at lessons on time and record, monitor and report concerns relating to lateness or absence from lessons.
  • Supervise students in the Restoration Room and support restorative, mentoring and reintegration work.
  • Use de-escalation strategies and sound judgement to promote the safety of students, staff and visitors.
  • Build constructive relationships with students, families and carers, keeping them appropriately informed and involved.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and communicate effectively with colleagues and external agencies.
  • Contribute to break and lunchtime duties, site security, school trips and wider school activities.

What we are looking for

  • Above all, you will be someone young people can trust and colleagues can rely on.
  • You will have experience of working successfully with young people and the confidence to respond to challenging behaviour without losing sight of the person behind it.
  • You will communicate clearly, remain composed when situations are difficult and combine warmth and empathy with consistent professional boundaries.
  • You will be comfortable taking initiative, working as part of a team and building constructive relationships with families and partner agencies.
  • You may already work in a school, youth service, alternative provision, care, community safety or another setting where relationships, sound judgement and calm decision-making matter.
  • You do not need to be a teacher.
  • You do need to believe that young people can change, that high expectations and strong relationships belong together, and that the right adult at the right moment can make all the difference.

Why this role matters

This is a role where your impact is immediate and visible. You might help a student regulate before a situation escalates, support a colleague at exactly the right moment or help a young person understand what went wrong and what needs to happen next. The work can be demanding, but it is purposeful. You will help protect learning, strengthen belonging and ensure students get another opportunity to succeed.

Why Felixstowe School?

Felixstowe School is a friendly, ambitious school at the heart of its community. In June 2024, we were judged Good in all areas by Ofsted — the first Good judgement in the school’s history. It was an important milestone, but not a destination. We are determined to keep improving, and our support staff are central to that work. We want Felixstowe School to be a good place to work as well as a great place to learn. Relationships matter here: between staff and students and between colleagues. You will join people who share ideas, step in to help and care about making a difference. We will support you to understand the role, develop your practice and build a career in pastoral and student support.

What we offer

  • Term-time working and a two-week October half-term.
  • A welcoming team and a role at the centre of school life.
  • High-quality professional development and opportunities across Unity Schools Partnership.
  • Monthly professional supervision through OM Health and Wellbeing, funded by the school.
  • An Employee Assistance Programme with access to discounts and benefits.
  • Salary-sacrifice electric vehicle and Cycle to Work schemes.

Could this be you?

You do not need to arrive with every answer. You need to care about young people, stay calm when things become difficult and want to be part of a team that refuses to give up on them.

If you are ready for a varied role with genuine responsibility and the chance to make a visible difference every day, we would love to hear from you.

Please be aware that the vacancy could close earlier than stated if suitable applicants are received.

Closing date: 09:00am, 09 October 2026

Interviews: TBC

Please note: We may interview as applications are received and may appoint before the closing date. Applications must be submitted online via our careers website before the deadline, so we encourage early applications and advise checking the job details on our site.

In line with safer recruitment, we cannot accept CVs. Incomplete application forms may result in candidates not being shortlisted.

Unity Schools Partnership is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils. All successful candidates will be subject to rigorous pre‑employment checks, including an enhanced DBS. We are also committed to equality, diversity and fair recruitment practices, and we oppose all forms of unlawful discrimination.

We value inclusive working practices and diverse teams. If you wish to work part‑time or as a job‑share, we will accommodate this wherever possible. We particularly welcome applications from under‑represented groups.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
