Job Title: Peripatetic Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant

Location: Esteem North Academy (Chesterfield or High Peak area)

Grade/Scale: Derbyshire County Council Support Pay Scale - Grade 8 (Points 12 - 15) FTE Salary £30,700 - £32,737 per annum, Actual Salary £26,400 - £28,152 per annum

Contract: 37 hours per week, term time only

Esteem North Academy is seeking a flexible, committed, enthusiastic and highly skilled STLA to work with pupils off site to deliver one to one tutoring. You will assist permanently excluded, or at risk, pupils with learning and engagement. Pupils who attend the academy have challenging and often complex needs, and exhibit behaviours that prevent them from attending a mainstream school. You will be allocated to a caseload of pupils and work with families from Day 6 of their permanent exclusion. The role will involve supporting pupils off site either in their homes or other public venues to complete work such as maths, English and PSD. You will also organise pupils completing their Functional Skill exams and may be involved with taking pupils to have an initial visit to an AP or take pupils to visit a potential new school. You will also meet new pupils to the academy and complete our suite of baseline assessments for induction. This role will involve lone working and travel. You will plan your own diary. Where caseloads reduce, you may be required to support on site.

Applicants should have good knowledge and experience of working with disaffected pupils in a school or other alternative setting. An affinity for pupils with behaviour, emotional and social difficulties is an essential quality for this challenging but rewarding opportunity. Applicants should be resilient, have high expectations, and a sense of humour. You must be able to build positive relationships with our pupils and think outside of the box. You will be responsible for ensuring that pupils needs are met. The majority of this timetable is likely to be working with secondary aged pupils. However, we do educate primary children and so there may be a need to educate younger children at times. A growth mindset and positive ethos are essential characteristics that we are looking for.

Potential candidates are expected to directly contact the Executive Headteacher or Head of School to discuss the academy and relevant experience prior to making an application. Suitable candidates will be invited to a meeting on site to further explore the role. Please contact them via their direct email or via phone call using the numbers provided.

Individual's must be willing to contribute fully to the life of the academy and be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. There may be travel to our other academy sites for meetings, Inset and CPD. You are required to have daily access to a car and business use included on your car insurance before you begin the role. You may be required to transport pupils in your car.

Esteem North Academy are seeking a positive, flexible, caring individual who is willing to contribute fully to the life of the school and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
