Teacher of Drama

Felixstowe School

Contract: Full-time or Part-time, Permanent

Salary: MPR/UPR

Start date: January 2027

Great students. Growing Performing Arts. A brilliant place to begin, or continue, your Drama teaching career.

We are looking for a vibrant, enthusiastic and creative Teacher of Drama to join Felixstowe School from January 2027, following the retirement of a much-esteemed colleague after 29 years of service to our community. This post would suit a creative and energetic teacher who wants to be part of a welcoming team within an exciting and creative area of our school, and the chance to make a visible contribution to school life.

Drama is a strong and successful subject within our Performing Arts Faculty, and we are looking for someone who loves their subject, enjoys working with young people and wants to contribute to much more than what happens inside their own classroom.

This is an exciting time for Performing Arts at Felixstowe School. Our music provision has grown enormously in recent years, with increasing numbers of students learning instruments, singing and performing. We are developing our dance provision, and we want Drama to continue to play a central role in a thriving Performing Arts culture across the school.

And then there’s the school show.

We want someone who will get excited about it.

Someone who will help students audition, rehearse, perform, create and discover talents they didn’t know they had. Someone who understands that a school production is about far more than the final performance: it creates friendships, confidence and belonging, and gives young people memories that can last a lifetime.

You do not need to arrive with every answer. You need to love Drama, care about young people and want to keep getting better. If you are early in your career, we will support you to grow. If you are more experienced, we will give you space to bring your ideas and help shape what Performing Arts becomes next.

About Drama at Felixstowe

Drama sits within our Performing Arts Faculty and is a strong performing subject. Students are enthusiastic about the subject and benefit from opportunities to perform both within the curriculum and beyond it.

We want our next Drama teacher to build on those strengths while helping us think ambitiously about what Performing Arts can become at Felixstowe.

You will:

  • teach engaging and ambitious Drama lessons across the age and ability range;
  • inspire students to develop confidence, creativity and a genuine love of performance;
  • contribute enthusiastically to productions, performances and enrichment;
  • play a significant role in our school show;
  • work alongside colleagues in Music, Dance and the wider Performing Arts Faculty to develop Performing Arts across the school;
  • create opportunities for students who already love performing — and for those who haven’t yet discovered that they do.
  • be supported through shared planning, professional development and career development opportunities relevant to your stage of career.

Who are we looking for?

Loves Drama. You know the difference an excellent Drama education can make and want students to experience the excitement of creating and performing.

Brings energy. You enjoy being part of school life and are willing to get involved.

Has high expectations. You believe students can produce work of genuine quality and will help them get there.

Is a team player. You will enjoy collaborating with colleagues across Drama, Music, Dance and Creative Arts.

Believes in opportunity. Performing Arts should not be something enjoyed by a small group of confident students. We want as many young people as possible to find their place within it — whether that’s centre stage, backstage, in the band, designing, directing, dancing or trying something completely new.

Most of all, we are looking for someone who wants to keep learning. That matters whatever stage your career is at. We want colleagues who are reflective, ambitious for students and open to being coached, supported and developed.

Why Felixstowe School?

Felixstowe School is changing quickly and ambitiously. In June 2024, we were judged Good in all areas by Ofsted — the first Good judgement in the school’s history. It was an important milestone, but not a destination.

We are proud of the opportunities our students now experience, both inside and beyond the classroom. Our music provision has grown beyond recognition, our Arts subjects are an important part of school life, and we want Performing Arts to become an even more visible part of our school community.

We are a school that believes young people should leave us with more than examination results. We want them to have performed, competed, travelled, created, contributed and discovered what they are capable of.

Our values are simple:

Inspiration – Aim high Influence – Work hard Integrity – Be kind

For the right Drama teacher, this is an opportunity not simply to teach a strong subject, but to help shape what Performing Arts at Felixstowe School becomes next.

We also want Felixstowe to be a good place to develop as a teacher. Colleagues benefit from shared curriculum resources, sensible and proportionate approaches to feedback, excellent professional development and opportunities across Unity Schools Partnership, including access to Teaching School Hub and Research School expertise.

Our wider staff offer includes a two-week October half-term, an Employee Assistance Programme, monthly professional supervision through OM Health and Wellbeing funded by the school, a salary-sacrifice electric vehicle scheme and a Cycle to Work scheme.

If that sounds like the kind of school you would like to be part of, we would love to hear from you.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
