The posting

Felixstowe School

Teacher of PE

Contract: Temporary, Maternity Cover (0.7 FTE up to 1FTE)

Salary: MPR/UPR

Start date: January 2027

Great students. Ambitious PE. A brilliant place to begin, or continue, your teaching career.

We are looking for a vibrant, enthusiastic and committed Teacher of PE to join Felixstowe School from January 2027 on a maternity-cover basis. This post would suit an energetic teacher who wants to be part of a welcoming team, deliver excellent physical education and make a visible contribution to school life.

PE is an important and popular part of our curriculum, and we are looking for someone who loves their subject, enjoys working with young people and wants every student to experience the confidence, enjoyment and wellbeing that come from being physically active. This is an exciting time for PE at Felixstowe School. We want to build participation, strengthen performance and give students of all abilities meaningful opportunities to develop their skills through lessons, clubs, fixtures and enrichment.

And then there’s the wider life of the school. We want someone who will get excited about it. Someone who will encourage students to take part, represent the school, develop resilience and discover activities they may not have tried before. Someone who understands that school sport is about far more than results: it builds teamwork, confidence, belonging and positive habits that can last a lifetime. You do not need to arrive with every answer. You need to love PE, care about young people and want to keep getting better. If you are early in your career, we will support you to grow. If you are more experienced, we will value the ideas and expertise you bring to the team.

About PE at Felixstowe

PE is an important and popular part of our curriculum. Students benefit from a broad and ambitious physical education programme, alongside opportunities to take part in clubs, fixtures and wider sporting activities. We want our maternity-cover Teacher of PE to maintain high standards, build on the department’s strengths and encourage students of all abilities to participate, improve and enjoy being active.

You will:

  • teach engaging and ambitious PE lessons across the age and ability range
  • inspire students to develop their confidence, physical literacy, teamwork and resilience
  • contribute enthusiastically to clubs, fixtures, competitions and enrichment
  • support students to represent the school with pride
  • work collaboratively with colleagues across the PE team and wider school
  • create opportunities for students who already love sport — and for those who have not yet found an activity they enjoy
  • be supported through shared planning, professional development and career-development opportunities relevant to your stage of career.

Who are we looking for?

  • Loves PE. You understand the difference an excellent physical education can make and want students to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead active lives.
  • Brings energy. You enjoy being part of school life and are willing to contribute to extracurricular sport and enrichment.
  • Has high expectations. You believe every student can make progress and will help them achieve their best.
  • Is a team player. You will enjoy collaborating with colleagues across PE and the wider school.
  • Believes in opportunity. PE and school sport should not be enjoyed only by the most confident or accomplished students. We want as many young people as possible to find an activity in which they can participate, improve and experience success.
  • Most of all, we are looking for someone who wants to keep learning. That matters whatever stage your career is at.
  • We want colleagues who are reflective, ambitious for students and open to being coached, supported and developed.

Why Felixstowe School? Felixstowe School is changing quickly and ambitiously. In June 2024, we were judged Good in all areas by Ofsted — the first Good judgement in the school’s history. It was an important milestone, but not a destination. We are proud of the opportunities our students now experience, both inside and beyond the classroom.

PE and school sport make an important contribution to school life, helping students develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and a sense of belonging. We are a school that believes young people should leave us with more than examination results. We want them to have performed, competed, travelled, created, contributed and discovered what they are capable of. Our values are simple: Inspiration – Aim high Influence – Work hard Integrity – Be kind

For the right PE teacher, this maternity-cover post is an opportunity not simply to teach an important subject, but to make a positive and visible contribution to the wider life of Felixstowe School. We also want Felixstowe to be a good place to develop as a teacher. Colleagues benefit from shared curriculum resources, sensible and proportionate approaches to feedback, excellent professional development and opportunities across Unity Schools Partnership, including access to Teaching School Hub and Research School expertise. Our wider staff offer includes a two-week October half-term, an Employee Assistance Programme, monthly professional supervision through OM Health and Wellbeing funded by the school, a salary-sacrifice electric vehicle scheme and a Cycle to Work scheme.

If that sounds like the kind of school you would like to be part of, we would love to hear from you.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
