We are looking for someone committed to providing high-quality teaching and learning in Science, enabling all students to make strong progress and develop their scientific knowledge, skills, curiosity and confidence.

The postholder will contribute fully to the work of the Science Faculty and the wider school, supporting a culture of high expectations, inclusion and continuous improvement. They will deliver engaging and appropriately challenging lessons, including purposeful practical work, and help students understand the relevance of science to everyday life, further study and future careers.

The Teacher of Science will:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Science lessons which meet the needs of students with a wide range of prior attainment and individual needs.
  • Teach Science across Key Stages 3 and 4, preparing students effectively for internal and external assessments.
  • Demonstrate secure subject and curriculum knowledge and communicate scientific ideas accurately and clearly.
  • Use a range of teaching approaches to promote participation, independence, curiosity and a positive attitude towards Science.
  • Provide appropriate challenge and support so that all students can access the curriculum and make progress.
  • Make effective use of practical activities, demonstrations, modelling, technology and other resources to enhance students' understanding.
  • Develop students' scientific literacy, numeracy, investigative skills, problem-solving and ability to analyse and evaluate scientific information.
  • Promote the safe and responsible use of laboratory equipment and materials and follow departmental health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Play an active role in the wider life of the school through involvement in extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities that support students' personal development and broaden their experiences beyond the Science curriculum.
