The posting

The working hours for these roles are expected to be 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. We are looking for multiple candidates to join our team.

At The John of Gaunt School, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, compassionate and committed One-to-One Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to an individual student, enabling them to access learning, develop confidence and achieve their full potential.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a welcoming, ambitious and inclusive school community within EQUA Mead Learning Trust, where collaboration, kindness and high expectations are at the heart of everything we do.

About the role

As a One-to-One Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff, the SEND team and pastoral colleagues to provide personalised support throughout the school day. Your role will be instrumental in helping a student engage successfully in learning, develop independence and build the confidence and resilience needed to flourish both academically and personally.

You will:

  1. Provide high-quality one-to-one support within lessons and around the school.
  2. Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs and promote engagement.
  3. Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of support.
  4. Build positive, trusting relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  5. Support the student's emotional wellbeing, confidence and personal development.
  6. Work collaboratively with teachers and specialists to implement personalised support strategies.
  7. Contribute to a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
  8. Maintain accurate records where required and uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and confidentiality.

About you

We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to inclusion and believes that every young person can succeed.

The successful candidate will:

  1. Have GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  2. Have experience of working or volunteering with young people in an educational or youth setting.
  3. Be committed to supporting students with a range of additional needs, including SEND, Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
  4. Be calm, patient, resilient and adaptable.
  5. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Be able to build positive and professional relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  7. Be organised, reliable and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  8. Have good IT skills and a willingness to undertake professional development.

A Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, experience in a secondary school or experience supporting students with SEND would be welcomed but is not essential, as full training and ongoing professional development will be provided.

Why join The John of Gaunt School?

As part of EQUA Mead Learning Trust, you'll be joining an organisation that invests in its people as much as its pupils.

We offer:

  1. A welcoming and supportive team who value collaboration and kindness.
  2. Excellent professional development and career progression opportunities across the Trust.
  3. A strong commitment to staff wellbeing and work-life balance.
  4. The opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people every day.
  5. A culture built on high expectations, inclusion and continuous improvement.

If you are passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve success, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The John of Gaunt School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and pre-employment checks. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. Early applications are encouraged, as we reserve the right to interview candidates before the closing date.

Important Application Information

When completing your application, please ensure that you add at least 2 references, with the first being your most recent employer. Please ensure that you read the attached referencing guidelines to familiarise yourself with our process.

As part of our safer recruitment procedures, it is important that references are requested and, wherever possible, obtained before the interview. Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance states that references should be sought before interview wherever possible and should be scrutinised as part of the recruitment process to help ensure that only suitable individuals are appointed to work with children.

Early applications are encouraged, as we reserve the right to interview before the closing date. Your application must include a full employment history, accounting for any periods of time where you were not in active employment. If this is not included it may not be possible to consider your application. To comply with safer recruitment regulations, we cannot accept applications using a CV. An incomplete application will not be considered.

This role will involve contact with children, and the post holder will be engaged in regulated activity relevant to children and will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check before appointment is confirmed.

We will only submit a DBS application to the relevant disclosure service when a position is accepted.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?
