Director of Data Integrations

Confidential Search | Healthcare Technology

Location: Remote — U.S.

Travel: Approximately 0–25%

Reports to: VP of Product or SVP of Engineering

About the Company

Our client is a growing healthcare technology company helping cancer care teams turn fragmented clinical information into better-informed decisions. Its platform supports multidisciplinary collaboration, care planning, and access to relevant treatment and research options, while helping healthcare and life sciences organizations derive value from complex clinical data.

Reliable access to clinical data is central to that mission. This role will lead the integration capabilities, customer partnerships, and data quality practices that make it possible.

The Role

The Director of Data Integrations owns how clinical data enters the platform—from source-system interfaces and ingestion pipelines to validation and customer coordination.

This role combines technical depth with customer-facing leadership. Internally, you will partner with Product and Engineering to translate customer needs into a practical integration roadmap. Externally, you will serve as a trusted technical counterpart to health system integration analysts, data architects, EHR teams, and clinical leaders.

You do not need to write production code. You do need to read a FHIR bundle, identify missing information in an HL7 message, assess a pipeline architecture, validate a cohort query, and contribute meaningfully to design discussions with senior engineers.

What You Will Own

1. Integration Strategy and Roadmap

Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to define the integration roadmap, including source systems, clinical data domains, delivery methods, and priorities.

Translate clinical and customer requirements into technical specifications, and engineering constraints into reliable commitments.

Reduce custom implementation work through reusable connectors, configuration templates, and reference architectures.

Maintain a clear view of integration capabilities and limitations by EHR vendor and version.

Translate developments in FHIR, bulk data exchange, USCDI, information blocking, and network-based interoperability into roadmap recommendations.

2. HL7, FHIR, and SMART on FHIR Delivery

Lead technical design and delivery oversight across HL7 v2, C-CDA, FHIR R4 REST APIs, bulk FHIR exports, and flat-file/SFTP feeds.

Oversee SMART on FHIR capabilities, including launch context, scopes, OAuth 2.0 flows, token handling, embedded experiences, and vendor application registration.

Define mapping and transformation requirements across clinical terminologies, including ICD-10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, CPT/HCPCS, and oncology-specific vocabularies.

Partner with health system interface teams and integration-engine specialists on specifications, testing, and cutover.

Own integration validation, including test plans, appropriate validation datasets, message- and record-level reconciliation, and go-live acceptance criteria.

3. Pipeline Assessment and Data Quality

Assess pipelines across ingestion, parsing, normalization, deduplication, and storage to identify failures, silent degradation, and scaling limitations.

Establish measurable standards for completeness, accuracy, freshness, source concordance, and lineage.

Define data quality thresholds appropriate for clinical workflows and research use.

Specify monitoring and alerts that identify stalled interfaces, missing segments, and incomplete feeds before they affect customers.

Lead root-cause analysis and coordinate resolution with Engineering and customer IT teams.

4. Cohort Extraction and Data Gap Closure

Define and oversee cohort extractions for clinical operations, quality reporting, research, and life sciences partnerships.

Validate inclusion and exclusion criteria, index dates, denominators, follow-up periods, and censoring assumptions.

Distinguish confirmed negative findings from missing or incomplete data.

Lead a structured process to identify data gaps, trace their source, prioritize remediation, and verify improvements.

Partner with Clinical Informatics and Data Science to assess where clinical NLP or LLM-based extraction can close gaps at scale.

Ensure extraction and data-sharing activities follow applicable HIPAA requirements, minimum-necessary principles, de-identification standards, contractual agreements, and research approvals.

5. Customer-Facing Technical Leadership

Serve as the senior technical contact for health system customers on integration and clinical data matters.

Lead discovery and scoping sessions during pre-sales and implementation, producing requirements that customer IT teams can act on.

Resolve complex questions about missing fields, data mappings, authentication, launch configurations, and cohort contents.

Support security and privacy reviews with architecture documentation, data flow diagrams, and technical responses in partnership with Security and Legal.

Represent the company in enterprise sales discussions, executive briefings, customer advisory sessions, and relevant industry forums.

6. Cross-Functional Execution and Team Development

Own integration intake and prioritization across Sales, Implementation, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering.

Reduce time-to-first-data through stronger requirements, clear handoffs, and disciplined implementation planning.

Build documentation and training that enable Implementation and Support to resolve routine questions independently.

Mentor integration analysts and implementation engineers, and help grow the team as demand increases.

Qualifications

Required

8+ years in healthcare data integration, interoperability, clinical informatics, or health IT implementation, including project or team leadership.

Deep working knowledge of HL7 v2, FHIR R4, and SMART on FHIR, supported by direct experience specifying interfaces, troubleshooting messages, and resolving authorization and launch-context issues.

Experience integrating with major EHR platforms such as Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), MEDITECH, athenahealth, or comparable systems.

Demonstrated ability to assess data pipelines, identify where quality deteriorates, and drive measurable improvements.

Experience defining and validating cohort extractions, with rigorous attention to selection logic and data completeness.

Working SQL proficiency: able to write and review queries, profile datasets, and independently validate results.

Comfort reading JSON, XML, and API documentation.

Technical judgment sufficient to shape a roadmap with Product and Engineering leaders and contribute to architecture decisions.

Strong written and verbal communication, including experience leading discussions with hospital IT teams and clinical leadership.

Willingness to travel for customer meetings and implementation work.

Strong working knowledge of HIPAA, PHI handling, minimum-necessary principles, and de-identification practices.

Preferred

Oncology experience involving tumor boards, staging, biomarkers, cancer registries, Commission on Cancer standards, or clinical trial matching.

Experience with integration engines such as Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, or Cloverleaf.

Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift, and related orchestration tools.

Experience delivering real-world data to life sciences partners, including tokenization and honest broker models.

Familiarity with terminology services, ontology mapping, or clinical NLP pipelines.

Experience in a growth-stage healthcare technology company.

Python or scripting skills for data profiling and validation.

Epic certification or comparable vendor credentials.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
