The posting

HEGSØ Search & Consulting has the task of finding a skilled Machine Learning Engineer for our client, the leading subsea technology and development company Teledyne RESON.

Job Purpose:

Turn noisy, real-time sensor data into robust machine-learning solutions.

As Machine Learning Engineer you join a multidisciplinary engineering team developing ML for target detection, sonar imaging and pattern recognition in streaming acoustic data. Your work will connect sensors, signal processing, high-performance computing and the information ultimately presented to users.

The sensor systems generate large volumes of real-time data, which is transformed into software products for visualization, post-processing and analysis. The processing chain combines demanding real-time computation with FPGA, DSP and GPU hardware.

You will help develop both the ML models and the infrastructure around them. Because the ML infrastructure supports internal development and customer on-site use, robustness, efficiency and control are central to the role. You will work with industry-standard tools as well as in-house technology.

This is a rare opportunity to apply machine learning to difficult, meaningful data alongside maritime domain experts, software engineers, mathematical modelling engineers and embedded-processing specialists.

What makes the role distinctive:

  • Challenging data – find structures and patterns in noisy streaming acoustic and hydrophone data
  • End-to-end impact – work from sensor input and model development through to information presented to the user
  • Industrial ML – turn novel ML technology into robust, efficient products for internal and customer use

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop machine-learning and data-science solutions for target detection in sonar acoustic data and imaging systems
  • Identify structures and patterns in data from hydrophones
  • Develop ML models and contribute to the ML infrastructure used in the software products
  • Be an active member of a development team spanning software, mathematical modelling and dedicated embedded-processing hardware
  • Communicate concepts across the development chain, from sensor input to the final information presented to the user
  • Propose improvements to ML models and infrastructure
  • Help bring novel ML technologies into robust, industrialized products
  • Keep current with relevant technologies and tools

Essential skills:

  • Experience with general machine-learning technologies, modern modelling techniques and deep-learning frameworks – PyTorch, TensorFlow or similar
  • Understanding of software quality assurance principles and build tools, plus a successful track record in ML development
  • Ability to manage and span substantial multi-year engineering efforts while contributing as a hands-on team player
  • Strong technical communication skills and proficiency in English

Useful additional experience:

  • A background in mathematics, physics or optics, with an understanding of the physics and nature of acoustics
  • Experience with related signal-processing domains such as hearing aids, 5G telecom, radar or ultrasound
  • Experience with relevant software and tools such as Git, Jira and build systems

Qualifications & Experience:

  • An MSc or PhD in engineering is a strong foundation, but an experienced professional background can be equally relevant
  • The right candidate may come from different disciplines and career paths

Behavioural Competencies:

  • Self-driven, enjoys difficult technical challenges and keeps pushing toward ambitious goals
  • Collaborates well and communicates well in a global team distributed between countries
  • Takes ownership and responsibility, delivers to agreements and keeps promises
  • Enthusiastic, energetic ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Interested in new technologies, industry challenges and in the products, use cases, customers and the marine domain

What we offer:

  • A collaborative workplace with strong colleagues and a company that takes good care of its employees
  • A high level of ambition and the time to build high-quality products within a company recognized globally for world-class sonar systems
  • A development path that supports your continued professional growth
  • Interesting products, markets and customers, including leading research organizations, global industrial companies and defence organizations

About Teledyne RESON: Teledyne RESON is a world leader in high-quality underwater acoustic solutions – multibeam sonars, sensors, transducers and survey software. Founded in Denmark in 1976 and part of Teledyne since 2013, with headquarters, R&D and production in Slangerup.

Job location

Copenhagen, Denmark is preferred because close collaboration between ML and software engineers is important to the role.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
