The posting

Purpose:

  • To provide legal support to the Companys project activities and ensure accurate legal interpretation and advice on the laws and agreements under which the Company operates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional advice, research and support in all legal matters related to the Companys activities.
  • Review and ensure compliance of Company documents (agreements, contracts, memorandums, letters, etc.) with legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Support the Legal Manager in the daily operations of Department.
  • Assist the Company Management and other internal functions in development and implementation of Company policies and procedures.
  • Represent the Companys legal interests before state bodies, courts and third parties. Prepare and present legal arguments in the course of proceedings.
  • Analyse and prepare documentation relating to litigation, claims, and legal matters.
  • Attend (as required) internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain records of agreements and original documents held by the Legal Department.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel: define scope of work, issue instructions, monitor progress of work and ensure proper time allocation and billing.
  • Monitor legislative developments.
  • Stay updated on applicable legislation and provide timely legal analysis and advice on implications of applicable legislation to the Company operations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High University degree in law or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum of five years of professional legal experience with a major international law firm or mid-to-large size multinational corporate law department.
  • Bar Admission - in any jurisdiction.
  • Knowledge and experience of oil and gas transactions.

Required Competencies and Skills:

  • Ability to clearly express and draft legal documents (claims, objections, appeals, advice, memorandums, opinions, procedures and policies).
  • Ability to provide a high-level executive summary of complex legal issues.
  • Accuracy, diligence and attention to the details. Honesty/Integrity.
  • Ability to deal sensitively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to interpret laws, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, and to prioritize.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with all levels of staff.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capability to work with PC, MS Office programs.
  • Good verbal and written English.

Working Conditions:

  • Office based, 5/2 scheduled work with business trips around KZ and abroad, if required.
