What We Want

The Data Analyst, under general supervision, gathers, compiles, analyzes, interprets, and reports data and identifies patterns. Provides analytical and reporting support for Athletics business operations and assists with the development, maintenance, and use of data systems, reports, and dashboards. Provides data support for departmental projects and business processes and performs assigned administrative and financial business functions for Athletics business operations

Responsibilities

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Collects and tallies data from various Athletics and University sources.
  • Manipulates data and calculations for better representation and understanding.
  • Compiles data into usable reports for Athletics teams, administrative units, and leadership.
  • Reviews business and financial data to identify discrepancies, trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assists with validating data for accuracy, completeness, and relevancy.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the collection, organization, and use of departmental data.

Database Management and Maintenance:

  • Develops, maintains, and updates databases for specialized Athletics projects.
  • Queries databases to extract, read, and write data, ensuring accuracy and relevancy.
  • Constructs, maintains, and refines reports and data dashboards for visualization and tracking.
  • Explores and/or develops new tools to automate data collection, presentation, and manipulation.
  • Maintains archives of project documentation to retain historical data for further use.
  • Monitors data sources and systems for accuracy and consistency.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining data structures and processes used to support departmental reporting and analysis.
  • Identifies data quality issues and assists with resolving discrepancies.

Reporting and Presentation:

  • Responds to requests for data and information from the Business Operations staff and prepares ad-hoc reports and query analyses in desired formats.
  • Prepares, maintains, and presents historical and comparative data to illustrate trends and patterns.
  • Develops reports and presentations to communicate business, financial, operational, and other Athletics data.
  • Ensures reports are accurate, timely, and presented in a format appropriate for the intended audience.

Accounting and Business Operations Support:

  • Reviews financial transactions and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable University, State, NCAA, and Conference requirements.
  • Reconciles accounts monthly as designated by Athletics business operations.
  • Manages department inventory processes.
  • Maintains familiarity with and supports compliance with applicable University, State, NCAA, Conference, and Athletics financial policies and procedures.

Project Support and Coordination:

  • Provides data support and technical expertise to teams developing projects with data-specific requirements.
  • Participates and contributes to unit meetings and committees as appropriate to job duties.
  • Assists in planning and executing projects, focusing on creative implementation under supervision.
  • Provides analytical and reporting support for departmental projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinates with Athletics staff and University partners to gather information and complete project-related data requirements.
  • Assists with implementing improvements to data collection, reporting, and business processes.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Detail oriented and high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to gather, organize, analyze, interpret, and present data.
  • Ability to identify trends, patterns, discrepancies, and relationships within data.
  • Ability to communicate technical information and analytical findings to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment when handling business and financial information.
