Senior Engineering Manager (Geotechnical & Geology)

Advert Close date: 26th October 2026

Purpose of Role: The Senior Engineering Manager (Geotechnical & Geology) provides technical leadership for geological and geotechnical evidence within the Marine Engineering & Analytics team. The role develops the data, evidence and insights that underpin seabed spatial planning, supporting our efforts to optimise future utilisation of the seabed for offshore wind and other sectors to 2050 through the Marine Delivery Routemap. Through specialist expertise in geology, ground modelling, geotechnical engineering and geohazards, the role translates complex technical information into strategic insight to inform marine spatial planning, leasing and investment decisions. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role leads engineering workstreams, research and evidence programmes, while engaging senior internal and external stakeholders to ensure engineering evidence supports TCE's business priorities and customer needs.

Main accountabilities:

  • Lead engineering workstreams and evidence programmes, applying geology and geotechnical engineering expertise to support the Marine Delivery Routemap and wider Marine business priorities
  • Act as Technical Authority for the acquisition, interpretation and application of geological, geophysical and geotechnical data and evidence, ensuring the quality and integrity of internally generated and externally commissioned studies, models and datasets
  • Lead the development and delivery of TCE's geology and geotechnical data and evidence strategy, including our collaborative research with British Geological Survey and future iterations of our national-scale marine ground model, to meet business and customer needs
  • Apply geological and geotechnical evidence to support techno-economic analysis, marine spatial planning, leasing and investment decisions, translating complex technical information into actionable business insight
  • Design and deliver engineering research programmes and site investigation strategies, defining data requirements and informing survey business case development, procurement and execution
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with industry, academia, government and research organisations to strengthen TCE's evidence base and thought leadership within the sector
  • Engage and influence senior stakeholders internally and externally to align engineering activities with TCE's strategic priorities, customer needs and cross-functional delivery objectives
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and technical leadership to support professional development, capability growth and engineering excellence across the team
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across Marine to deliver business objectives, foster a positive organisational culture and contribute to wider Engineering & Analytics priorities as required

Most important skills based requirements:

  • Deep technical expertise in geology, ground modelling, geotechnical engineering and geohazards, with strong experience in data handling, interpretation and the application of geological and geotechnical evidence to support marine spatial planning, site selection, techno-economic analysis and strategic decision-making
  • Familiarity with offshore renewable energy project engineering, ideally across multiple areas including substructure technology and structural engineering, with experience specifying, procuring and/or managing marine survey and site investigation programmes
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical data into clear insights and develop evidence, data and digital tools that support business and customer decision-making
  • Strong understanding of marine priorities, spatial analysis, multi-sector planning, sustainability and technology developments within the UK marine environment, with the ability to apply sector knowledge to innovative spatial planning strategies
  • Proven leadership in technical and engineering environments, with strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders, manage complex workstreams and balance competing priorities across diverse groups
  • Chartered status (CEng, CGeol, CSci or equivalent) or actively working towards professional accreditation
  • Can demonstrate the behaviours of Better Together, Candour with Care, Resourceful and Accountable which are linked to our values of Together, Caring, Creative and Impactful

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
