ABOUT THE ROLE

Sigma https://www.sigmacomputing.com/ is seeking a seasoned and driven Product Design Manager to lead a team of talented designers in crafting exceptional user experiences for AI first and cloud native experiences. You will be the first Design Manager reporting to VP of Design and Research. You will play a key role in setting design strategy, driving execution, mentoring design talent, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. We’re looking for someone who can balance high-level vision with detail-oriented design execution, and who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. We are in a maker’s culture and we expect managers who are hands-on.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

- Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary design team across product design and coach them on how to use AI to push changes directly into code.

- Translate complex data workflows into simple, elegant, usable interfaces that empower non-technical users to build apps, workflows and agents.

- Establish design best practices and processes that elevate the quality, craft, and efficiency of our output.

- Lead our Design System and take it to the next level.

- Collaborate closely with Design, Product, Engineering, and Research to deliver seamless, intuitive experiences that solve real customer problems.

- Ensure design work is aligned with the company's brand, vision, and strategic goals while pushing the boundaries of innovation in data visualization.

- Provide critical feedback, guidance, and coaching to designers, helping them progress in their craft and careers.

- Champion a user-centered approach and help establish a design culture rooted in empathy, iteration, and measurable impact.s

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

- 5+ years of experience in product/interaction design, with at least 1 year in a team leadership or management role.

- Someone who thrives in ambiguity, quick to adopt change and can take leadership in initiatives without much guidance.

- Proven track record of designing and delivering complex digital products, ideally in the AI field with a scrappy mindset.

- Hands on approach, including AI frequently in your design process, not only to prototype but also to build.

- Strong foundational skills in interaction and visual design, with a sharp eye for detail and a system-thinking mindset.

- Experience driving design strategy, vision-setting, and cross-functional collaboration.

- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

- Experience working in agile, fast-moving teams and shipping production-ready designs.

- Code and data literacy is a plus.

PORTFOLIO EXPECTATIONS (NOT REQUIRED FOR THE FIRST PHONE SCREEN)

Your portfolio should:

- Showcase end-to-end case studies that highlight your impact as a design leader and practitioner.

- Demonstrate design thinking, problem-solving, and your approach to managing complexity.

- Include examples of team leadership, collaboration, and mentoring in addition to hands-on design work.

- Reveal how your work aligned with business objectives and delivered value to users.

Base salary for this role is $230,000–$280,000+, depending on experience, with an approximately $350,000 equity package vesting over four years.

This role is hybrid in San Francisco, near the Financial District South / SoMa border, with an onsite expectation of four days per week.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
