Data Management Coordinator

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Data Management Coordinator to work at UHealth. The Data Management Coordinator reviews new research administration proposals, awards, contracts, and other relevant data documents. This position also oversees and mentors junior staff members to ensure activities are efficient and in compliance with applicable requirements.

  • Generates reports and analyzes data for internal planning processes and reporting purposes.
  • Identifies and finds solutions for bugs and data anomalies.
  • Analyzes user requests for customized reports and coordinates closely with user departments to resolve complex data problems.
  • Supports the compilation of statistical reports.
  • Develops forms and tools for data collection and analysis.
  • Conducts record ownership transfers between databases.
  • Advocates for the use of appropriate reporting tools and efficient processes to improve data tracking and reporting.
  • Meets the daily reporting requirements from relevant information systems.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

The data manager owns CCBH's clinical research data end to end, from collection in REDCap to analysis-ready tables in Azure. The work covers longitudinal study data, neuropsychological assessments and multi-study datasets, all handled under HIPAA requirements.

The role is both technical and service facing. The data manager builds and maintains the platform, and also supports the research team with exports, reports and new study instruments.

Build and manage REDCap projects, instruments and surveys, including bilingual English and Spanish versions

  • Generate and manage participant GUIDs across studies and maintain the CCBH GUID Portal linking GUID, study ID, REDCap record ID and visit status
  • Run Python pipelines that pull REDCap and study data into the Azure data lake
  • Maintain bronze, silver and gold notebooks in Synapse with watermarking, metadata-driven transforms and Delta merge patterns
  • Standardize study IDs across Clinic, CCBH, DPI and MCS sources and build composite keys from REDCap events
  • Reconcile REDCap exports against lake data, catch mismatches and fix them at the source
  • Manage Delta tables per study (CBB, DLB, HBI, Clinic) with catalog and column documentation, and maintain the data dictionary
  • Run de-identification and pseudonymization using HMAC-hashed subject IDs, and keep all handling HIPAA compliant
  • Build clean, documented datasets for investigators and statisticians to use in analyses, papers and grant work
  • Build participant lists and datasets that support recruitment, screening and study enrollment
  • Own the internal data export app with Microsoft login, required justification per export and audit logging to Synapse
  • Produce enrollment and retention reports, compliance reports as PDFs, and ad hoc exports for the research team
  • Manage Azure resources, access, Key Vault secrets and environment configuration

Core Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Data lifecycle knowledge.Understands collection, storage, transformation, governance, archiving and retention, and how each applies to research data.
  • Medical or clinical data experience. Has worked with PHI and knows HIPAA, de-identification and IRB-driven data handling.
  • Data quality and assurance practices. Can design validation checks, reconcile sources, track and resolve discrepancies, and keep data audit ready.
  • REDCap. Can build and manage projects, instruments, branching logic, calculated fields, piping, longitudinal events and the REDCap API.
  • Expert Python with PySpark. Can read, debug and extend existing pipelines and notebooks without rewriting them.
  • Delta tables. Understands merges, schema evolution, time travel and medallion layering.
  • Microsoft Azure. Comfortable with Synapse, Data Lake Storage, Key Vault and resource permissions
