Client Finance & Commercial Operations Manager

New York, NY

TMG (The Miles Group) – one of Council Advisors’ operating businesses – is a leadership advisory firm serving some of the world’s most prestigious companies through executive coaching, succession, executive assessment, board advisory, and strategic leadership offsites. The Client Finance & Commercial Operations Manager leads contracting, billing, and collections for TMG – coordinating among clients, business development, project teams, legal and finance.

This is a client-facing role and TMG’s operational contact for client procurement, finance, and accounts payable teams. It represents the TMG brand and builds relationships that keep each engagement on track from initial proposal through the contracting process to payment.

The role reports to the Head of Finance and works directly with the General Counsel and TMG’s Managing Directors. It will also shape how contracting and client operations work as Council Advisors’ scales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the process from won opportunity to executed contract and project setup, confirming client and commercial requirements before work begins.
  • Draft and coordinate engagement letters, MSAs, SOWs, amendments, and NDAs with TMG’s Managing Directors and the General Counsel, ensuring each contract accurately reflects scope, fees, timing, billing terms, and expenses.
  • Manage client procurement requirements, including purchase orders, vendor registration, billing portals, and invoicing instructions.
  • Oversight of consultant expenses, including approvals, receipt collection, etc. to drive efficiency.
  • Establish new clients and projects in Salesforce to match executed agreements.
  • Maintain the contract management system as the system of record for client agreements, key dates, renewals, and amendments.
  • Partner with Finance and project teams to deliver accurate, on-time invoices and resolve client billing questions timely.
  • Build consistent, repeatable processes across contracting, project setup, billing, and collections.

Qualifications:

  • 5–8 years in client finance, commercial operations, contract management, or professional services operations.
  • Experience drafting and coordinating engagement letters and other commercial agreements.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce (or a similar CRM) and Excel, and experience partnering with Finance on billing, purchase orders, or revenue recognition.
  • Hands-on experience running a contract management system.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Any of the following is a plus: experience selecting or implementing a contracting management system, Certinia (formerly FinancialForce) PSA, Concur or a comparable expense platform, or a paralegal certificate.

Critical Skills

  • Strong and consistent work ethic with a commitment to timely execution and focus on details.
  • Relationship-oriented, with the presence to earn the trust of senior client contacts and internal leaders.
  • Sees how contracting, project setup, billing, and collections connect, and surface issues before they escalate.
  • Good judgment about what to handle and what to escalate, including recognizing when an issue is a legal question.
  • Organized and precise across multiple clients and competing deadlines.
  • Clear writer and proactive communicator who resolves problems early.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
