Nielsen is seeking a non-attorney patent agent to join its Intellectual Property Team on a permanent basis. The Patent Agent will work alongside Nielsen’s engineers, data scientists, and other innovators to continue developing a world class patent portfolio to propel Nielsen’s business goals.

The Patent Agent will draft patents protecting technologies related to: design and operation of audience measurement metering devices; approaches for media recognition and classification leveraging digital signal processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence; approaches for scaling and deduplicating audience measurement estimates via fusion of multiple data sets leveraging a variety of data science methodologies; and approaches for assessing audience engagement and advertising impact.

This fully flexible role is fully remote/work from home (Midwest or Eastern time zones preferred).

Responsibilities:

  • Drafting provisional and non-provisional utility patent applications in-house.
  • Working directly with inventors and colleagues to evaluate invention disclosures.
  • Prosecuting patent applications in-house under supervision of IP portfolio managers both in the United States and in certain foreign jurisdictions by providing direct instructions to outside counsel foreign associates, including interviewing patent examiners, drafting and reviewing office action responses, drafting and reviewing appeal briefs, and all other phases of patent prosecution.
  • Assisting in developing patent strategies that focus patent protection on competitively differentiated features of Nielsen’s products, including working with IP portfolio managers and Nielsen’s product owners to ensure alignment between Nielsen’s business stakeholders and patent strategy.
  • Providing intellectual property support to Nielsen’s engineering and product teams related to its tech portfolio, including invention mining, patent training, and conducting patent audits of Nielsen’s products to identify existing and planned patent coverage and also identify patent whitespace for further IP development.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience as a patent agent, including drafting patent applications, drafting responses to office actions, and conducting examiner interviews.
  • Degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related industry experience, and/or in-depth knowledge of media content distribution, including but not limited to broadcast networks, cloud networking, wireless networks, end-user devices used to access and playback media content, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science methodologies, and identity resolution.
  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Previous in-house patent preparation and prosecution experience valued.
  • Experience with AI-drafting tools valued.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
