Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinician
West Warwick • Integrated Primary Care About the Role Are you a clinician who’s drawn to working with kids and families — and wants to do it embedded in primary care, not isolated from the medical team? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinician at our West Warwick location. You’ll provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive behavioral health services to children and adolescents as part of the integrated care team, with the ability to see adult patients as needed. You’ll respond to warm hand-offs from medical providers, conduct screenings, deliver individual, group, and family therapy, and partner with psychiatric prescribers — all within a patient-centered medical home serving families from West Warwick and surrounding Kent County communities. What You’ll Do Clinical Assessment & Treatment
Provide trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and families Respond to warm hand-offs from medical providers for same-day behavioral health consultations, brief interventions, and triage Conduct brief screenings to evaluate behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, and families Deliver individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based approaches (TF-CBT, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing) Assess clinical emergencies including suicide risk and risk of harm to others; determine appropriate levels of care Provide consultation to medical providers on behavioral health management and support integrated treatment plans Partner with psychiatric prescribers (PMHNPs/psychiatrists) on patients requiring medication management alongside therapy Provide behavioral health services to adult patients as needed within scope and caseload capacity
Collaboration & Community
Collaborate with providers, agencies, schools, and other individuals in each patient’s network of care Communicate with local community agencies, Kent County schools, and family support organizations as needed Participate in the Behavioral Health on-call schedule Provide referrals for more intensive services where appropriate
Documentation & Compliance
Complete same-day documentation in the EHR (eClinicalWorks) including screenings, progress notes, treatment plans, and insurance documentation Ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 (SUD confidentiality), mandated reporting requirements, and HRSA/FQHC regulations Support HRSA UDS reporting for behavioral health measures (depression screening, SBIRT, pediatric screening)
What We’re Looking For You’re a clinician who can connect with a seven-year-old, support a worried parent, consult with a pediatrician, and document a crisis assessment — all in the same afternoon. You bring developmental expertise, clinical skill, and genuine warmth to every encounter.
Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field Rhode Island licensure as LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, LMHC-A, or LMFT (comparable out-of-state licenses considered with ability to obtain RI licensure) Minimum 2 years of clinical experience with demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents, and families Working knowledge of DSM-5-TR/ICD-10, psychotherapy methodologies, and evidence-based treatment planning Demonstrated ability to assess clinical emergencies and determine appropriate levels of care Experience working with diverse populations
Preferred:
LICSW licensure in Rhode Island strongly preferred Prior experience in an FQHC, community health center, or safety-net pediatric behavioral health setting Experience with integrated behavioral health / PCBH model including warm hand-offs in pediatric primary care Training in trauma-informed care, TF-CBT, SBIRT, and evidence-based pediatric/adolescent interventions Experience with early childhood mental health, perinatal mental health, or school-based behavioral health Bilingual (Spanish/English or Portuguese/English) strongly preferred for the Kent County communities served
Schedule & Location Full-time (40 hours/week), benefit-eligible, based on-site at Thundermist’s West Warwick location. Schedule includes mornings, afternoons, and evenings — with a larger distribution of afternoon and evening hours to match the pediatric and adolescent population served. Some schedule flexibility is available. Participation in the Behavioral Health on-call schedule is required. Occasional travel to off-site meetings and other Thundermist sites as needed.
