The posting

The Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa Public Policy team leads the company's engagement with governments, policymakers, civil society, and opinion leaders across a wide range of strategically important markets. We represent the company on high-profile political, legislative, and regulatory issues, and help external stakeholders understand how our products work and the safeguards behind them.

The region spans very different political systems and regulatory traditions, so the same issue rarely looks the same in two markets. We shape and advocate for practical solutions to emerging technology challenges, working toward a policy environment that supports innovation, growth, and long-term business success.

You will take part in some of the most consequential policy conversations shaping the future of the business, with direct impact on how users, creators, and communities across the region experience our platforms.

About the Team: The Southeast Asia (SEA) Public Policy & Government Affairs team's work spans a broad and diverse range of functions and workstreams, including government affairs and government relations; policy and issue area expertise; regulatory strategy; risk and crisis management; stakeholder engagement; coalitions and partnerships; and social impact initiatives.

The mission of the SEA Public Policy & Government Affairs team is to develop and advocate for solutions to pressing technology policy issues and promote a political, legislative, and regulatory environment that supports innovation and sustainable business growth.

As TikTok continues to expand its business portfolio across Southeast Asia, the team plays an important role in supporting the company's broader businesses, including digital platforms, e-commerce, enterprise solutions, and emerging technologies. In Thailand, the team works closely with government stakeholders and internal business teams to navigate regulatory complexity, protect the company's license to operate, and enable long-term business development.

Responsibilities: - Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with key government agencies, regulators, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders in Thailand. - Develop and implement government relations and public policy strategies that support the company's business priorities, manage regulatory risks, and foster a favorable environment for innovation and sustainable growth. - Monitor and analyze political, legislative, and regulatory developments, providing timely insights and practical recommendations to internal stakeholders. - Engage with government stakeholders on policy and regulatory issues affecting TikTok and ByteDance's broader business portfolio, including digital platforms, e-commerce, competition, consumer protection, online safety, data governance, and emerging technologies. - Collaborate closely with internal teams, including Legal, Communications, Trust & Safety, and business operations, to align government engagement strategies with regulatory requirements and business objectives. - Support existing and emerging business initiatives by identifying regulatory opportunities, addressing policy challenges, and facilitating constructive engagement with government stakeholders. - Represent the company in government consultations, industry associations, policy forums, and other relevant external engagements. - Develop and maintain networks with industry associations, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to support policy advocacy and strategic partnerships. - Contribute to the development of policy positions, regulatory submissions, briefing materials, and stakeholder engagement strategies that advance the company's interests and support its user and business communities. - Support regulatory discussions, government inquiries, and sensitive policy matters, working collaboratively with regional leadership and relevant internal teams to develop practical solutions. - Identify opportunities for government partnerships and initiatives that demonstrate the company's positive contribution to Thailand's digital economy, technological innovation, and socioeconomic development. - Contribute to regional public policy priorities and cross-market initiatives across Southeast Asia as required.

Minimum Qualification(s): - Bachelor's degree in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Public Policy, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Significant relevant professional experience in government relations, public policy, regulatory affairs, or related functions. - Strong understanding of Thailand's political, legislative, and regulatory environment, including government decision-making processes and key institutions influencing technology and the digital economy. - Demonstrated experience engaging with government agencies, regulators, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders in Thailand, with an established professional network across government and industry. - Experience developing and implementing government engagement or policy advocacy strategies, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory issues and stakeholder interests. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Thai and English, as this role will require the candidate to communicate effectively with government stakeholders and senior internal leadership in both languages. - Strong political judgment, stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain constructive relationships.

Preferred Qualification(s) - Prior experience within the technology, digital economy, telecommunications, e-commerce, or other regulated industries. - Good understanding of public policy issues affecting technology companies, particularly digital platform regulation, e-commerce, competition, consumer protection, online safety, and emerging technologies. - Commercial awareness and the ability to understand how policy and regulatory developments may affect business operations, market opportunities, and long-term growth. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex policy and regulatory developments into clear, practical recommendations. - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions, influence stakeholders, and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. - Experience working in a multinational or regional organization. - Interest in working across a diverse and evolving portfolio of technology businesses, with the ability to develop an understanding of different business models and their policy implications. - Strong sense of ownership, integrity, adaptability, and self-motivation, with the ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
