Reporting to the Project or Construction Manager, the inspector coordinates with property owners, pole owners, utilities, agencies, and contractor crews. The role requires sound field judgment, accurate documentation, and knowledge of right-of-way, NESC, pole attachment, and fiber installation practices. Primarily field-based, with frequent travel to observe underground, make-ready, and aerial construction. Requires safe navigation of rights-of-way, pole lines, and variable terrain, including safe distances from energized facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect underground construction (trenching, plowing, drilling, conduit, handholes, restoration) and document depth of cover, separation, backfill, markers, and tracer wire.
  • Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, permits, traffic control, safety, and erosion control requirements.
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineering, utilities, and agencies on field conflicts, and attend pre-construction, progress, and closeout meetings.
  • Document daily progress with reports, photos, and redlines, and verify contractor quantities for invoice review.
  • Report deficiencies and unsafe or nonconforming work, and help resolve restoration, property owner, and permit issues.
  • Support as-builts, test documentation, punch lists, and closeout.
  • Inspect make-ready (transfers, pole replacements, attachment removals, anchors, and guying) and verify heights and NESC clearances before fiber placement.
  • Inspect aerial fiber placement, including strand tension, lashing/overlashing, ADSS, sag, bonding and grounding, risers, slack storage, and splice enclosures.
  • Coordinate make-ready sequencing with pole owners and attachers, and track pole status in NJUNS.

Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • 5+ years of experience in telecom, fiber, utility, or civil construction inspection experience (underground and/or aerial).
  • Knowledge of underground methods (trenching, directional drilling, conduit, restoration) and right-of-way practices.
  • Knowledge of make-ready and aerial methods, NESC clearances, and joint-use standards.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, permit plans, route maps, and as-builts.
  • Familiarity with utility locates, traffic control, and site safety.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills; Microsoft Office, mobile reporting, and GIS tools preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, background check, and drug screen required.
  • Able to work outdoors in all conditions, lift 50 lbs., climb and kneel, and work after hours as needed.
  • Underground fiber inspection experience on municipal, utility, broadband, or transportation projects, including directional drilling, open trench, and conduit work preferred
  • Familiarity with VDOT/local right-of-way permits, Miss Utility/811, and utility owner coordination.
  • Make-ready and aerial fiber inspection experience on joint-use pole lines, including NJUNS workflows; NESC Joint-Use training a plus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
