About the Role

The Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager provides enterprise-level leadership and oversight of environmental, health, and safety programs supporting corporate operations and federal government contracts. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving EHS programs that promote a strong safety culture, reduce workplace risk, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, as well as contract-specific safety and environmental requirements.

The Senior EHS Manager serves as a subject matter expert and strategic partner to Operations, Human Resources, Contracts, Quality, and site leadership. The position provides guidance to geographically dispersed operations and works closely with Project Managers, site safety personnel, employees, subcontractors, government representatives, and other stakeholders to ensure EHS requirements are consistently implemented across the organization.

This position requires the ability to balance regulatory compliance, contractual requirements, employee safety, and operational needs within complex government contracting environments.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise EHS policies, programs, procedures, and standards across multiple contracts and locations.
  • Serve as the senior EHS subject matter expert and strategic partner to Operations, Human Resources, Contracts, Quality, site leadership, government customers, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state and local requirements, federal contract obligations, customer-specific standards, and EM 385-1-1 requirements where applicable.
  • Integrate EHS requirements into daily operations, business decisions, contract transitions, mobilizations, start-ups, proposals, renewals, and contract execution.
  • Lead risk assessments, job and activity hazard analyses, workplace inspections, compliance audits, and corrective-action processes for new and existing work, equipment, facilities, and operations.
  • Oversee incident reporting and investigations for injuries, illnesses, environmental events, near misses, and property damage; conduct root-cause analysis, identify trends, and ensure timely regulatory and customer notifications.
  • Develop and oversee EHS training, toolbox talks, safety meetings, committees, and engagement initiatives that reinforce accountability, hazard prevention, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide functional leadership, coaching, and technical direction to corporate and site EHS personnel, employees with assigned safety responsibilities, and subcontractors.
  • Manage environmental compliance programs, including hazardous materials and waste, spill prevention and response, stormwater, air quality, and related requirements.
  • Establish and monitor subcontractor qualification, safety planning, compliance, performance, and corrective-action processes.
  • Leverage technology to improve EHS reporting, tracking, notifications, and organizational visibility, including electronic incident reporting and corrective-action monitoring.
  • Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual safety metrics; analyze incident, audit, training, and compliance data; maintain site inspection and audit schedules; and report significant risks, trends, and unresolved issues to senior leadership.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and directly related experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible EHS experience, including experience supporting complex or geographically dispersed operations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of EHS leadership or program-management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root-cause analyses, safety audits, hazard assessments, and corrective-action management.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical operational processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with employees, senior leadership, customers, and government representatives.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across different locations and contracts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and EHS reporting or tracking systems.
  • Ability to travel to company and contract locations as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government contracts, particularly Department of Defense contracts.
  • Experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or NAVFAC safety requirements and EM 385-1-1.
  • Experience supporting Base Operations Support (BOS), facilities management, construction, maintenance, logistics, public works, or similar government contracting environments.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or similar professional certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction and/or General Industry training.
  • Experience developing Accident Prevention Plans, Activity Hazard Analyses, and other government-required safety documentation.
  • Experience supporting proposals, contract transitions, and government audits.

This position operates in both professional office and field environments. Field assignments may involve exposure to construction, maintenance, industrial, transportation, utilities, facilities, or other operational environments associated with federal government contracts. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
