Join our Team as an Automation Software Engineer!
The Role:
We’re seeking an Automation Software Engineer to develop software for the next generation of intelligent automation, robotics, and autonomous material handling equipment. You’ll design and integrate software that connects embedded systems, sensors, computer vision, and intelligent vehicle platforms. Working alongside software, robotics, machine learning, electrical, and mechanical engineers, you’ll help solve complex technical challenges and bring scalable, high-performance automation technologies from development through validation and release.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design, develop, test, and release software components for automated forklift models and product options.
- Build software architectures, component functionality, and system integrations for complex automation and autonomous vehicle applications.
- Create algorithms supporting autonomous navigation, computer vision, path planning, and safety-critical automation.
- Integrate software with cameras, LiDAR, sensors, embedded controllers, and robotic hardware platforms.
- Lead technical development for assigned components, identifying risks, resolving architectural challenges, and supporting project objectives.
- Partner with software, embedded, robotics, machine learning, electrical, and mechanical engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Validate system performance, analyze test results, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements to reliability.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, software tools, and frameworks while documenting designs, system architecture, validation plans, and technical recommendations.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 2+ years of professional software development using C++, Python, C#, or another object-oriented programming language.
- Proficiency in Linux-based development environments and modern software development practices, including Git source control.
- Hands-on work integrating software with cameras, LiDAR, embedded controllers, robotic platforms, or similar hardware.
- Familiarity with localization, navigation, and autonomous path-planning algorithms.
- Strong software debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills for solving complex technical problems.
- Effective written and verbal communication with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage competing priorities.
What Sets You Apart:
- Robotics, autonomous vehicle, computer vision, industrial automation, automotive, or material handling industry experience.
- Familiarity with machine learning, AI, perception algorithms, or sensor technologies such as radar, IMUs, and GPS.
- Exposure to embedded software, embedded Linux, real-time operating systems (RTOS), multithreaded programming, distributed systems, or real-time software design.
- Safety-critical software, functional safety, automated testing, software validation, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), or DevOps experience.
- Interest in emerging automation technologies and applying new tools and approaches to intelligent, autonomous systems.
Where and When You’ll Work:
- This is an in-person role located at our Syracuse, New York office—ideal for those who thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.
