The posting

We are seeking a Brand Controller/Assistant Controller (Remote- US based only) for a full time and direct hire role for one of our amazing and fast-growing home services partners with multi-locations across the United States. This role is remote, but you MUST be living in the West Coast or Mid-West within the United States and be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder. This role does NOT offer sponsorship, it's NOT a consulting role, and we do NOT work with 3rd parties!

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller / Brand Controller to oversee the accounting and financial reporting for an established residential services business within a growing, multi-company Private Equity platform. This individual will take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, manage the monthly close process, and provide timely financial information to business leadership.

You should have experience managing the accounting function for a small to mid-sized business, preferably within residential home services such as garage doors, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or a similar field-service industry. This is an accounting professional who enjoys working across both corporate financials and operational activities, is comfortable working independently, and can balance detailed accounting execution with business-focused reporting.

This is a remote opportunity, with a preference for candidates located in the Midwest or Western United States who can accommodate occasional onsite visits.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting Operations: Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and reconciliations.
  • Month-End Close: Own and execute the monthly closing process, ensuring financial records are accurate, complete, and delivered on schedule.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and operating performance summaries for business leadership and the broader finance team.
  • Cash Management: Monitor daily cash activity, reconcile bank accounts, prepare cash reports, and identify discrepancies or unusual transactions.
  • Balance Sheet Management: Maintain supporting schedules and complete timely balance sheet reconciliations to ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Operational Partnership: Work closely with business leadership to understand financial results, identify trends, investigate variances, and support informed operating decisions.
  • General Ledger & Fixed Assets: Maintain accurate account coding, journal entries, accruals, fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and related supporting documentation.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and maintain sound accounting procedures, documentation, and internal controls while ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and analysis of actual results against expectations.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Audit & Tax Support: Coordinate documentation and provide support for external audits, tax filings, and other compliance requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the platform finance team to ensure consistent reporting practices, accurate financial information, and adherence to established accounting standards.

Requirements

  • Experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or Full-Charge Bookkeeper role with responsibility for core accounting functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, reconciliations, financial statements, and month-end close.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial reports and maintaining accurate balance sheet schedules.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal accounting controls.
  • Experience supporting the financial operations of a small to mid-sized business, ideally with annual revenue of approximately $30 million or less.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and financial reporting tools, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
  • Comfortable working directly with operational leaders and communicating financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Ability to work remotely while remaining responsive to business needs and available for occasional travel to company locations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in residential home services, including garage doors, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, or other technician-based service businesses.
  • Hands-on experience with ServiceTitan or similar field-service management and business operating software.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or other cloud-based accounting and financial reporting platforms.
  • Experience supporting a private equity-backed company, multi-location business, or organization operating within a larger corporate platform.
  • Exposure to operational reporting, job-level profitability, service revenue, technician productivity, or other field-service business metrics.
  • CPA certification or progress toward the designation.
  • Experience improving accounting processes, implementing internal controls, or supporting the transition to more standardized reporting practices.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status. You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
