About the Company

Our client manufactures large pieces of equipment in a low-volume, job shop style environment in Salisbury, North Carolina.

The Role

The Machinist sets up and operates both CNC and manual machine tools, lathes and mills, to produce precision parts for the company's equipment. You will work closely with the fabrication, welding and assembly teams and with manufacturing and production scheduling to keep jobs on track and meet quality standards. Relocation is not offered for this role, so local candidates are preferred.

What You Will Do

  • Set up and operate CNC and manual mills, lathes and related machine tools to produce parts to print specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances and machining sequence.
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds and work-holding methods for each job.
  • Write, change and prove out CNC programs, and troubleshoot and adjust programs to correct issues during production runs.
  • Inspect finished parts with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Report equipment issues promptly.
  • Coordinate with fabrication, weld and assembly supervisors to keep parts flowing on schedule.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area in line with shop safety standards.
  • Accurately document completed work, scrap and downtime.

What You Bring

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience operating CNC and manual machine tools in a manufacturing or job shop environment
  • Experience setting up and running lathes and mills on low-volume work
  • Strong ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings, including GD&T basics
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and quality inspection methods
  • Working knowledge of CNC setup and program editing
  • Solid understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling selection and materials (steel, aluminum and similar)
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production setting
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
