The posting

Not yet qualified but keen to get involved in ski or snowboard instructing? We invite expressions of interest to become a Snowsports instructor on successful completion of the 2026 Rookie Instructor Training Programme, here: https://www.mthutt.co.nz/all-lessons/instructor-training  

Applications for employment (on completion of the above training programme) will be accepted from New Zealand or Australian residents/citizens and those on a Working Holiday Visa. 

About the Role 

Please complete this application as soon as you have booked into the programme. Upon successful completion of the programme you will be interviewed for a position as rookie instructor for the school holidays. As a rookie the contract type will be ‘casual’ however you may be working 25-30 hours/week during school holiday time. Your location will be based at Mt Hutt Your teaching rate as a Rookie before you become NZSIA/SBINZ qualified will be NZ $27.35/hour plus a tax free equipment allowance of $4/hour when teaching. Your teaching rate as a Rookie once you are Level 1 qualified will be NZ $29.10/hour plus a $4/hour tax free equipment allowance per hour when teaching. Your non-teaching rate (mountain rate) will be NZ $23.66/hour for duties such as shovelling snow, helping guests in rentals and any other tasks allocated to you. 

You'll Be 

Joining a team of global professional instructors, trainers and coaches Delivering a great guest experience in school ski/ride programmes and group lessons. Progressing guests using NZSIA/SBINZ guidelines as guided by your Rookie Instructor Training programme trainers. Adaptable to an ever-changing environment. No day is ever the same on our mountains! Part of our wider mountain team, you may be asked to help guests in rentals, F&B, meeting area setup or other. Aware that work availability is subject to weather, snow conditions and business levels. We will aim to advise you 48 hours in advance of any changes to your schedule. 

Skills and Attributes 

Must be able to ski/ride Red Terrain safely and in control Must be confirmed by the course trainers as confident and competent and at the level to pass the Level 1 Ski or Ride exam.
