Job Description

The Department of Mathematics at Tulane University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek outstanding candidates with active research programs in the fields of probability or mathematical statistics. While methodological contributions are essential, we particularly welcome candidates whose work has interdisciplinary applications in the biological, medical, social, chemical, or physical sciences.

The Tulane Mathematics Department currently offers an MS in Statistics in addition to an MS in Data Science that is a joint program with the Tulane Department of Computer Science, and our flexible graduate program enables students to complete dissertations in all areas of pure and applied mathematics including statistics. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an internationally visible, externally funded research program; teach and mentor students effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels; contribute to the Department’s academic mission and service activities; and participate actively in the intellectual life of the University. The current teaching load is one course per semester, although this may be subject to change depending on departmental needs.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional promise in research with experience in classroom instruction. Postdoctoral experience is preferred but not required.

Tulane University is a leading private research university located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Mathematical Department is part of the Tulane School of Science and Engineering, which offers a collaborative environment with substantial opportunities for interdisciplinary research and education. Our faculty members also regularly collaborate with researchers at the Tulane School of Medicine and the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

Appointment is expected to begin August 1, 2027.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit the following materials through Tulane University's online application system:

  • Cover letter describing research interests, teaching experience, and qualifications for the position.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Research statement.
  • Teaching statement.
  • Four letters of recommendation, including one addressing teaching.

Review of applications will begin on November 15th and continue until the position is filled. To receive full consideration, applications should be submitted by December 1st.

Questions regarding the position may be directed to Professor Michelle Lacey at [email protected].

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
