Summary of Job Duties:

The Test Engineer I is responsible for developing, qualifying, implementing, and sustaining wafer-level and device-level electrical test and characterization methods within the National Multi-User Silicon Carbide (MUSiC) Research and Fabrication Facility. This position supports research, customer-sponsored projects, prototype fabrication, product qualification, and low-volume semiconductor manufacturing by ensuring that fabricated devices are accurately characterized against defined technical, quality, and customer requirements.

Working under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer, the Test Engineer I will develop and maintain wafer-level and device-level test methods, define test conditions and acceptance criteria, support test-equipment selection and qualification, analyze electrical and product-performance data, and identify trends, anomalies, and potential failure mechanisms. The position will work closely with product engineering, process integration, process engineering, quality, equipment, research, and customer teams to correlate test results with fabrication history and device performance.

The Test Engineer I will also support product qualification, reliability evaluation, failure investigation, root-cause analysis, yield improvement, test-method validation, technical reporting, and customer-facing data packages. The position is expected to contribute to the development of repeatable and statistically sound test methodologies appropriate for MUSiC’s research, prototyping, and low-volume manufacturing environment.

This position may provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, interns, and student researchers. This position requires regular work in a semiconductor cleanroom environment and may require occasional work outside normal business hours in support of fabrication schedules, equipment recovery, or operational and safety needs. This position is weather essential and may require being on call for emergency response. HAZMAT training will be provided and is required for this position.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • Associates Degree in a technical field
  • At least five years industry experience in a semiconductor test role, developing, executing, and sustaining semiconductor electrical test and characterization methods
  • At least five years experience with wafer-level or package electrical testing
  • At least seven years experience analyzing semiconductor test data and identifying performance trends, anomalies, yield loss, or failure signatures
  • At least five years experience supporting product qualification, device characterization, failure analysis, reliability or manufacturing test activities
  • At least five years experience troubleshooting test equipment, test methods, measurement systems, or data-quality issues
  • At least two years experience preparing technical reports, test specifications, procedures, work instructions, or customer-facing technical documentation
  • At least two years experience working collaboratively across test, product, process, quality, research, or manufacturing organizations
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to access to controlled facilities and environments

Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related technical field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least five years experience testing silicon carbide, wide-bandgap semiconductor, power semiconductor, or high-voltage devices
  • At least eight years experience with wafer probers, probe stations, parameter analyzers, source-measure units, curve tracers, and related semiconductor electrical test equipment
  • At least five years experience with statistical process control, design of experiments, FMEA, root-cause analysis, GRR, or other structured problem-solving methods
  • At least five years experience qualifying or validating new test equipment and measurement methods

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
