Fixed Term: 2-year contract

Shape what happens next. Be part of something bigger.

Here, you can continue to make a difference in everything around you. Take on new challenges, grow your career, be recognised for your contributions, and benefit from our commitment to your wellbeing. Be part of something bigger — where your work has real impact and your development matters. There are so many reasons to take your next step with us.

The University of Edinburgh is a world-class organisation. We are a large University covering a wide range of activities. In Professional Services, we support the University’s research and teaching, offering many career and role specialisms.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a University Website Support Assistant who will be working with the University Website and Web Strategy teams to improve the quality of the University’s web presence and estate. In this role, you will support and enable the University web publishing community in creating, maintaining, and improving University-owned websites, by providing expert guidance to a diverse range of users. You will be managing and monitoring the University’s web estate registry, helping website owners ensure their websites’ regulatory compliance and performance.

This role will ensure that web content meets University standards, accessibility requirements, and legal obligations, while delivering training, support, and quality assurance. It also contributes to continuous improvement by gathering insights, supporting the centrally managed platform’s development, and promoting best practice across the community.

You'll join the Website and Communications (WAC) team, a highly collaborative and supportive part of Information Services. We work in the open: EdWeb 2 and the University's Student & Staff Portal (MyEd) are both built on open-source software, reflecting the University's commitment to open software and data across its services.

You will work very closely with the Web Strategy team, actively contributing to the compliance, performance and effectiveness of the University’s large website estate.

We'd love to hear from someone with strong communications skills, having the ability to engage with non-specialist audiences and support them to make the best use of the University’s website services to communicate with their audiences. A key skill is experience working with data, from collection to management and their visualisation for diverse audiences, to support insightful actions.

People have always been at the heart of our work. Our people are at the centre of the University community and everything we do. We value colleagues with drive, determination and a passion for what they do. We are a place where everyone is welcome and offer a range of policies and benefits designed to support you in building the right meaningful flexibility that works for you.

A career with us has a range of other benefits that can be tailored to your lifestyle:

  • Professional development and subject matter expertise
  • Opportunities to develop new skills and broaden your experience
  • Responsibility and autonomy
  • Contributing to the work and purpose of the University.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns, such as compressed hours or longer breaks in the working day.

The team office location is at the west edge of the University’s central campus, in 5 Forrest Hill, Edinburgh, EH1 2QL.

The role follows a hybrid working pattern, combining time working from home with regular time on campus: we ask that colleagues spend at least two days a week on-site, one of which is our shared team anchor day, so the team can collaborate, support one another and stay connected in person.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
