About the Role:

UP International College New Zealand (UPIC) is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Humanities Teacher to join our academic team in Auckland CBD.

In this role, you'll play an important part in preparing international students for their next steps into university study. You'll deliver engaging lessons across subjects such as Geography, Communications and Art History, encouraging students to explore different perspectives, develop critical thinking skills and build a deeper understanding of the world around them.

As part of our academic team, you'll have the opportunity to bring together a range of subject areas, encourage meaningful classroom discussions and help students develop the analytical, research and communication skills needed for future academic success.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing lesson plans, teaching materials and assessments that align with programme objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Helping students develop an understanding of geographical concepts, communication principles, historical perspectives and the interpretation of art and culture.
  • Encouraging critical thinking, independent research, effective communication and analytical skills through engaging classroom activities and discussions.
  • Assessing student performance and providing meaningful, constructive feedback to support their academic development.
  • Monitoring student progress and identifying opportunities to provide additional learning support where needed.
  • Creating a positive, inclusive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to share best practices, strengthen programme delivery and contribute to ongoing academic improvements.
  • Providing academic guidance and pastoral support to help students successfully navigate their pathway to university.

Qualifications

About You:

We're looking for someone who is passionate about education, enjoys exploring different subject areas and can make Humanities topics engaging and accessible to students.

You'll be a creative, supportive and adaptable educator who enjoys encouraging discussion, challenging perspectives and helping students make connections between different subjects. You'll be confident working with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and committed to creating a learning environment where everyone feels encouraged to participate and succeed.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Sciences or a relevant qualification.
  • Previous teaching experience at secondary or tertiary level, ideally within one or more of the relevant subject areas.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Geography, Communications and/or Art History, with the ability and willingness to teach across all three disciplines.
  • The ability to deliver engaging lessons and communicate complex concepts in a clear, accessible and thought-provoking way.
  • Strong research, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to encourage students to think critically and express their ideas confidently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and relationship-building skills.
  • A flexible and student-centred approach to teaching, with the ability to support different learning styles and abilities.
  • A collaborative mindset and a genuine commitment to supporting student achievement.
  • Experience teaching or working with international students would be advantageous.
  • Current Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand registration is preferred. Candidates holding a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT) will also be considered.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
