The posting

About Us: If you are passionate about the ability of American business to improve lives, solve problems, and strengthen society, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the place for you. As the world’s largest business organization, we believe in building a future that gives everyone the opportunity to pursue a better tomorrow. We make it our job today–and every day–to build the strongest relationships possible among the American people, business leaders, and elected officials in Washington, D.C., state capitals, and countries around the globe. For them and the businesses we represent, the U.S. Chamber is a trusted advocate and partner.  We are driven by the pursuit of innovation and partnership and hold ourselves to the highest standards. Our commitment to our members is matched only by our commitment to our employees. As part of our team, we will support your long-term career development while delivering relevant learning opportunities. We will empower you to lead, develop deep expertise, and find new approaches to solving the toughest challenges.     Position Overview: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is seeking an attorney to serve as the primary in-house counsel for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the 501(c)(3) public charitable organization affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This position is housed within the U.S. Chamber’s Office of the General Counsel and reports directly to the general counsel of the U.S. Chamber and the U.S. Chamber Foundation. The Foundation is in a high-growth period in which exciting new programs are emerging, and it is looking for an attorney to serve as a partner in this period of growth.    Responsibilities:

Advise regarding the laws applicable to tax-exempt organizations.

Review the Foundation’s contracts, including grant agreements, technology contracts, event contracts, and consulting agreements.

Inform the Foundation on new program developments, legal structure for strategic partnerships, grants fundraising, and sponsorships.

Help staff strategically plan programs and agreements to ensure compliance with all applicable law.

Advise on qualified sponsorships, UBTI, charitable activities, educational activities, grantmaking, Form 990 reporting, structuring and managing relationships with affiliated entities, lobbying activities, and other tax matters.

Work on charitable solicitation registration and related issues.

Function as an integral part of a friendly, collaborative in-house legal team.

Work closely with other operational departments such as Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology.

Work with the Office of General Counsel’s other lawyers to provide assistance on specific projects and take on a portfolio of work that supports the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, not just the Foundation.

  Qualifications:

Experienced attorney with 6+ years’ legal experience working with tax-exempt organizations, preferably with a strong background in analyzing and negotiating contracts and grants.

Juris Doctor with strong academic performance during law school.

Membership in good standing in, or eligibility to waive into, the District of Columbia Bar.

 Strong business sense.

Demonstrated commitment to client service. Ability to oversee the work of outside counsel. Exceptional legal research and analytical skills. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Intellectual curiosity and resourcefulness. Ability to work independently. Ability to manage multiple matters for multiple stakeholders and set and adjust priorities. Sound judgment. Able to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Previous law firm experience is a plus.

Previous in-house legal experience is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $240,000.00 to $250,000.00. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant’s qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
