The posting

The role

Lead engineering at Mason while continuing to build.

You'll work directly with our CTO to make architecture decisions, drive delivery, and help engineers do the best work of their careers. Initially, expect roughly 70–80% hands-on engineering and 20–30% leadership. You'll be in the code, reviewing designs, solving difficult problems, and making sure the team follows through.

We're looking for someone Sai can lean on to run engineering independently while he spends more time with customers and prospects. A strong technical lead, staff engineer, or former founder could be a great fit.

What we're building

Mason is accelerating development of the built world with AI. We turn fragmented documents, databases, emails, and operational knowledge into a company brain people and agents can use to automate work and eliminate errors.

We're growing fast - we have an 8-figure pipeline of projects and are looking for great engineers and builders to join our team.

Our founding team includes a repeat founder who sold his last company to Coinbase, a former tech lead at Meta Superintelligence who co-created Meta AI, and a development director who built $2B+ of projects.

What you'll own

  • Technical direction. Design and build the backend, data, and AI systems behind enterprise deployments. Make clear architecture, vendor, and build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Delivery. Turn priorities into plans and ownership. Spot risks early, challenge weak assumptions, and unblock the team.
  • Engineering quality. Set practical standards for code, security, testing, observability, and operating what we ship.
  • People. Coach engineers, give specific feedback, and handle accountability conversations directly and thoughtfully.
  • A stronger foundation. Turn customer-specific work into reusable systems, and help hire and develop the team as we grow.

Who we're looking for

  • 4+ years of engineering experience, with substantial recent ownership of production software.
  • Evidence of leading engineers or a substantial project with multiple contributors. Tell us what improved because of your leadership.
  • Strong system-design judgment and the ability to get into code, data, and root causes yourself.
  • A record of making tradeoffs, setting priorities, and delivering through uncertainty.
  • Clear communication with founders, engineers, and customers, including the difficult conversations.

Your strongest area could be backend systems, data, infrastructure, or applied AI. A previous Head of Engineering title is optional. Current technical depth and a record of making a team more effective matter a lot.
