The posting

Fire Alarm Service & Maintenance Engineer

(Emergency Lighting Experience)

Location: Birmingham to Oxfordshire

OTE: £35,000–£40,000

Type: Full-Time, Permanent

A strong opportunity for an engineer who wants to either enter the fire safety sector or continue building their career within it.

Valoris Group is recruiting on behalf of a national fire safety provider looking to strengthen their service and maintenance team. This role suits an electrician who is either looking to move into fire alarm systems or already has some exposure and wants to specialise further in a stable, compliance-driven environment with real long-term progression.

This is not positioned as an entry-level role. It is ideal for someone who is technically capable, reliable, and looking to develop into a specialist within fire safety and compliance.

You will be part of a professional national team delivering critical safety services across commercial sites. The role involves travel and working away Monday to Friday, with all accommodation arranged.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining and fault-finding on fire alarm systems, alongside emergency lighting testing and compliance work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain and fault-find on commercial fire alarm systems
  • Test emergency lighting systems and replace fittings where required
  • Complete compliance reports to a high standard
  • Work in line with BS 5839 and all relevant safety regulations
  • Attend client sites nationwide
  • Work away during the week when required, with accommodation provided

Candidate Profile

  • Electrical background, apprentice nearing completion or fully qualified
  • Experience or exposure to fire alarm systems and emergency lighting preferred
  • Confident with emergency lighting testing and minor remedial works
  • Looking to either enter or further develop a career in fire safety
  • Professional, organised, and comfortable with travel
  • Full UK driving licence

Package & Benefits

  • On-target earnings of £35,000–£40,000
  • Overnight stay allowance
  • KPI-based performance bonuses
  • Ongoing training and specialist development
  • Clear progression into senior fire engineer or compliance roles
  • Long-term career stability within a growing national business

This role is ideal for an electrician who wants to specialise, gain recognised fire safety experience, and build a solid long-term career in a highly regulated and in-demand sector.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
