Purpose: The Lead Test Engineer provides technical leadership, governance and strategic direction for module testing and system qualification. The role ensures test processes, equipment, software and data are robust, scalable, standardized and continuously optimized to meet customer requirements and factory quality, cost, delivery, safety and capacity objectives.
The position owns end-to-end test strategy and readiness, leads complex technical escalations, and drives continuous improvement through structured problem solving, automation and data-driven decision making. The Lead Test Engineer also develops engineering and technician capabilities and aligns test technology with product, program and factory roadmaps.
Key Area of Responsibilities:
- Lead the Test Engineering team, assign product and program ownership, set priorities and establish technical review and escalation mechanisms.
- Own test and qualification strategy for new product introduction, project transfers, production ramp and major product or process changes.
- Translate customer, product and technical product documentation requirements into test coverage, acceptance criteria, procedures and qualification plans.
- Govern the creation, validation, release, deployment and change control of test procedures and work instructions.
- Define, source, qualify and maintain test systems, fixtures, diagnostic equipment, facilities and calibration requirements.
- Lead development and controlled deployment of test software, scripts, sequences, automation interfaces and test-data solutions.
- Monitor test execution, capacity, equipment uptime, retest and delivery risks; coordinate cross-functional recovery actions.
- Lead complex module and system troubleshooting, customer complaint investigation, root-cause analysis, CAPA and effectiveness verification.
- Establish and review test KPIs, including first-pass yield, cycle time, utilization, downtime, retest, false-failure and defect trends.
- Drive Lean Six Sigma, automation and digitalization initiatives that improve test robustness, throughput, cost, safety and sustainability.
- Ensure compliance with QMS, ESD, cleanroom, electrical safety, calibration, maintenance, data-integrity and customer requirements.
- Coach Test Engineers and technical staff; define competency, training, certification and succession plans.
- Develop a prioritized test technology and capability roadmap aligned with business, customer and product strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Computer & Software, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
- 8-10 years of relevant experience in test engineering, module testing, system qualification or high-precision manufacturing, including technical leadership responsibilities.
- Experience in semiconductor equipment, complex mechatronic systems, cleanroom production or similarly controlled manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Proven experience leading technical teams and cross-functional improvement or industrialization initiatives.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, ISTQB or a relevant test or automation certification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of test strategy, requirements analysis, test coverage, acceptance criteria, qualification planning and requirements traceability.
- Proficiency in structured troubleshooting and problem-solving methodologies, including 8D, DMAIC, PDCA, pFMEA, control plans, SPC and Gauge R&R.
- Experience in test equipment specification, fixture design concepts, electrical and mechanical interfaces, acceptance testing, calibration and maintenance.
- Understanding test software lifecycle, scripting, test-sequence development, automation interfaces, version control, validation and data integrity.
- Ability to perform test capacity modelling, cycle-time analysis, equipment utilisation, bottleneck analysis and recovery planning.
- Strong technical writing, data analysis, stakeholder communication, coaching and decision-making skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers.
