The posting

Senior UX Engineer

Build the future of AI UX

At Vellum, we’re building the infrastructure that lets the world’s best teams ship AI products faster and with more confidence. As a Senior UX Engineer, you’ll be responsible for crafting seamless, intuitive, and future-ready experiences for the builders shaping the next wave of AI.

This is not just a design role. It’s not just an engineering role. It’s both. You’ll bring deep technical expertise together with a relentless focus on usability, transforming complex workflows into experiences that feel simple and obvious—even for users who aren’t deeply technical.

You’ll take the lead in defining and implementing our design system and component library, ensuring our product feels cohesive, scalable, and fast to build on. You’ll have end-to-end ownership of key user journeys—designing, prototyping, implementing, and iterating quickly in close collaboration with design, product, and engineering.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in ambiguity, sees around corners, and loves moving fast. Someone who obsesses over details, but never loses sight of the big picture. Someone who’s willing to put in the reps, cut the right corners, and do whatever it takes to ship experiences that make AI development feel intuitive—even when what’s under the hood is complex.

If you’re excited by the idea of inventing the UX patterns for an emerging category—and you want to do it with a team that values trust, candor, and chasing big wins—you’ll fit right in.

What you’ll do

  • Own end-to-end UX for complex workflows: from research and ideation to design and implementation.
  • Prototype and build production-ready UI—you’ll write clean, reusable code in React/TypeScript while shaping the interaction design.
  • Lead the creation of Vellum’s design system and component library, ensuring consistency, scalability, and speed across the product.
  • Translate complex AI concepts into UIs that are usable and approachable, even for less technical users.
  • Collaborate deeply with designers, engineers, and PMs to validate ideas quickly and deliver impactful features fast.
  • Define UX patterns for a new category where best practices are still being written.
  • Continuously iterate based on feedback, usage data, and your own instincts for great product experiences.

What success looks like

  • Our users feel like Vellum “just works” and makes their lives dramatically easier.
  • Complex, multi-step AI workflows feel intuitive and cohesive—even for non-technical users.
  • A robust design system and component library accelerates development and raises the UX bar.
  • You’re a trusted partner across product, design, and engineering—someone we can depend on.

What you’ll bring

  • A track record of building great UX in complex technical products (bonus if it’s for dev tools, data/infra platforms, or AI tooling).
  • Proven experience creating or leading a design system and component library for a fast-moving product team.
  • Strong skills in modern frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript) and a deep understanding of web UX best practices.
  • A systems thinker’s mindset—you can balance pixel-perfect details with scalable design patterns.
  • A love for fast iteration and a bias toward shipping.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and openly, give and receive direct feedback, and build trust.
  • Hunger to win in a competitive market and the willingness to do whatever it takes.

Why you might love this

  • You want to work on category-defining software at the bleeding edge of AI.
  • You like high ownership, high trust environments where you’re empowered to make decisions.
  • You want to move fast without sacrificing quality—and you know how to cut the right corners.
  • You care about craft, but you’re also pragmatic and driven by outcomes.
  • You’re energized by big challenges and you want to make your mark.

Our stack

  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Next.js
  • Design: Figma
  • Backend: Python, Django, Google Cloud Platform, k8s
  • AI & Dev Tools: We use the latest AI tools to accelerate our work everywhere we can

The Vellum way

  • Lean into the future: We embrace change, adopt new tools, and build ahead of where the puck is going.
  • Say what you mean; mean what you say: We’re direct, honest, and dependable—internally and with our customers.
  • Chase victory: We’re here to win, and we know it takes speed, sacrifice, and excellence.

Ready to build the future?

If you’re excited to invent the UX patterns for the next wave of AI development and want to do it with a team that’s moving fast, come join us.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
